The Concordia Self-Study Bible has the readability of the NIV with distinctively Lutheran study notes. Features include: words of Christ in red; center-column cross-reference system; book outlines and introductions; in-text maps, charts, diagrams, and illustrations; parallel passages and significant corresponding passages listed under sectional subheadings; six pages of full-color timelines of the Old and New Testaments; sixteen pages of full-color maps; concordance; subject index; and a presentation and family record page. Genuine leather. Thumb indexed.
This is a great Bible! Easy to read and very instrumental for understanding what each verse means. This Bible will be very helpful for your spiritual growth. Nice leather cover and indexed pages to aid in finding a book of the Bible. I love this Bible.
For those of you who were "raised" on the NIV Study Bible (the original), this will be a pleasant alternative. I attend a Lutheran Church and purchased this Bible to better understand the teachings of the Lutheran Church. The pleasant part is that it is identical to the NIV Study Bible but has wonderful quotes from Martin Luther sprinkled throughout. Another plus is that the cover is hardly commercialized. It is very simple, like the old NIV Study Bible. It is cream colored with a navy blue spine, and the title simply printed on the cover. The picture above shows the removable jacket. This is a great Bible for anyone--whether Lutheran or not. It's a great way to get to know the teachings of Martin Luther in accordance with God's Word--the father of the reformation.

I purchased two of these bibles, one for myself and one for my husband. And since I wanted this to last us for the rest of our lives, I had them personalized as well. The additional information at the bottom of the page, pertaining to a specific passage, is very interesting. I have found it very handy during mommy bible study; many ask me what a specific passage means now that they know I have this bible! And I find that when my pastor asks what a certain passage means, such as what a legion is, I have the answer at the bottom of my bible, which impresses him too. By the way, a legion is 6,000 - a Roman term speaking of a legion of warriors.
