EChrisCentral NYAge: 55-65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Beautiful volume lovely icons excellent commentaryFebruary 2, 2011EChrisCentral NYAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This is a well thought-out volume with excellent commentary and study notes. It is easy to read with clear, large type. The notes draw from Patristic sources which pre-suppose Faith rather than the skeptical "scholarship" that readers are usually subjected to. It also presents an excellent counter-balance to the Protestant/Evangelical viewpoint found in most other Bibles. The translation is very well done, and it is enriching to be able to use a translation based on the Septuagint. The icons are lovely. Reading this Bible is a truly prayerful experience.

Samar5 Stars Out Of 5My Absolute FavoriteDecember 12, 2016SamarQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This bible is so precious. The OT is based on the original ancient Septuagint, which renders the translation to be the most accurate and the most reliable of all translations out there. The bible also includes sayings and commentaries from the early fathers of the ancient church. I have made this my choice of gift to everyone I know since I found it.

The 'Christian-Flash'5 Stars Out Of 5WOW.....Eastern Orthodox STUDY BIBLE!!! Uses NEW KING JAMES VERSION [NKJV] translation as the 'basis' for Biblical Text of NEW TESTAMENT & 'SEPTUAGINT/OLD TESTAMENT'.....June 2, 2020The 'Christian-Flash'Quality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Greetings:
I currently do not 'belong' to any church 'per se'. My 'fellowship-church going' experience to 'Orthodox Christianity' has been limited to a RUSSIAN ORTHODOX church located in 'Upstate New York', USA so far. So.....from that perspective.....
THE ORTHODOX STUDY BIBLE published by THOMAS NELSON, Inc. [ISBN 9780718003593] is an absolute must have' for any 'serious' student[s] and collector[s] of the Bible! For those Bible readers who 'favour' the NEW KING JAMES VERSION [NKJV] translation of the HOLY SCRIPTURES, I should think 'they' will find it 'especially' enlightening and informative.
The Biblical text of this study Bible has the Books called Apocrypha interspersed throughout the Old Testament section 'in accord' with the original 'Greek language' version of the SEPTUAGINT OLD TESTAMENT and with Eastern Orthodox Christianity. To the 'best of my knowledge' this is the only edition 'to date' of the NKJV that does have any of The Books called Apocrypha included as 'part of' the NKJV text.
The text of the books 'selected' from the Apocrypha for the 'Orthodox' Old Testament was translated by a group of scholars affiliated with the Saint Anthony Academy of Orthodox Theology. Very significant. (Note: The text for the Old Testament 'canon' for Eastern Orthodox Christianity does have 'significant' differences from the Old Testament 'canons' of Roman Catholicism and various 'Protestant sects'.)
Next.....the 'layout' of the Biblical text and study notes (plus the quality of the 'typeface/font' used and printing itself) is 'extraordinary'! With the Biblical text set in 'double column' and the study notes located at the bottom of each page in 'single column', I have never seen better.
(Note: The formatting of the typesetting is very similar to that of the typesettings used for various 'original' REVISED STANDARD VERSION [RSV] and NEW REVISED STANDARD VERSION [NRSV] editions of THE NEW OXFORD ANNOTED BIBLE [with or without THE APOCRYPHA] published by OXFORD UNIVERSITY PRESS.)
The twelve 'color plates' included (depicting biblical scenes) through the use of 'Icon-paintings' are 'uniquely beautiful'. This 'genre of illustrative art' is not 'exactly realistic' nor is it 'exactly abstract'. While I am not an 'art-historian'.....I would describe the illustrations as 'ethereal in nature'!
The ten 'colorful' Bible maps by 'GeoNova' are annotated and very easy to follow and understand.....very innovative.
The 'other' edition of the NKJV which I own (and which I find 'very handy') when reading and using this NKJV edition of THE ORTHODOX STUDY BIBLE is my (and.....I presume.....'long out of print') 1985 NKJV Cross Reference-Wide Margin Edition of THE HOLY BIBLE [Model #472] from THOMAS NELSON, Inc.. For me.....these two 'editions' go 'hand in hand' perfectly.
What more can I say.....A FIVE STAR EDITION EDITION of the NEW KING JAMES VERSION of the Bible.....no 'ifs'.....no 'ands'.....no 'buts'.....!!! Bottom line.
Blessings,
The 'Christian-Flash'!

Joseph the Betrothed5 Stars Out Of 5December 23, 2009Joseph the BetrothedFinally, we can now read and understand the Holy Scriptures of our Christian faith with the same eyes as the earliest Christians, before all these divisions and denominational views. Truly, this is a predenominational work that every Christian must have and use--it is wrong called the "Orthodox" study Bible, as it should be called the Ancient or Original Study Bible. Truly refreshing: praise Jesus!!!
