The first-person pronoun in Romans 7 has long been a matter of debate. Middendorf surveys the options and affirms, from semantic examination, involving the Pauline corpus and Acts, that Paul is the referent. Romans 7:7-11 is about his pre-conversion experience, including the Law; 7:14-8:4, about a part of his Christian life, including Sin reigned over by Christ's victory.
