The first-person pronoun in Romans 7 has long been a matter of debate. Middendorf surveys the options and affirms, from semantic examination, involving the Pauline corpus and Acts, that Paul is the referent. Romans 7:7-11 is about his pre-conversion experience, including the Law; 7:14-8:4, about a part of his Christian life, including Sin reigned over by Christ's victory. The purpose is to warn and exhort from what he models. The "I" is an exciting subject, clearly presented.
