Note: I do NOT have this specific edition of the DSSB for I bought mine as a hardback. They are exactly the same, just different covers. I would like to review my thoughts here.

The Dead Sea Scrolls Bible is a WONDERFUL resource that I have been using for quite a while now. This Bible is NOT your normal Bible and is very incomplete for it is mostly fragments. If you get this Bible, use it only for textual criticism and such. You probably won't have a nice time reading the whole thing itself.

Pros: This Bible contains much information not seen in the Masoretic but seen in the Septuagint and sometimes the Samaritan Pentateuch. I love to use this in comparison with my SP, and LXX. It also contains some footnotes with alternate readings and where you may find the presented text in the scrolls. The Bible has most or all of Isaiah, which is wonderful, especially when referring to things such as Isaiah 53.

Cons: 1 Enoch and Jubilees are missing. They show them in the table of contents but they are actually missing. It is very hard to navigate. Unlike other publications from HarperCollins, such as the Gnostic Gospels of Jesus, they'll tell you what book you are at at the top. In this, they do not inform you on such. In both books, they don't tell you the chapter either.

I need to use this book more but these are the only problems I know so far. These are very minor issues, so I think this Bible is absolutely great and I recommend it 100 percent. You can find the DSS elsewhere online which is very helpful considering this book isn't really your average Bible but if you prefer books over digital like me, than this is what I'd go with. This pairs excellently with The Complete Dead Sea Scrolls by Penguin Classics so I also recommend using that with this.

For those confused - wondering why some books are omitted in the Dead Sea Scrolls, please duckduckgo and read a little history why the Catholic version of the Bible became church dogma at the Council of Trent in 1546 AD. And...then read some those books and then, you may realize why they are not considered Holy Spirit inspired. My husband & I are on at least our third reading thru Scripture. I am reading the Dead Sea Scroll portion while my husband follows along with his Bible. I also have a couple other translations from two other Bibles sitting next to me. The parts of the scrolls that are too damaged are definitely noted...but I am truly amazed at how well this translation follows the oldest Bibles available such as the Masoretic & Septuagint. It gives me even greater confidence in the fidelity of God's Word.

Another good addition to my Bible study website. The Post Office took 17 days to deliver it, but is still in near perfect condition.

Great resource,it is based on fragments found so not every book is complete, but is a wonderful tool to compare modern translations to the ones that were read back in the times of Jesus.
