Grounded in the Faith is intended to do just that. Ground you in the faith. Kenneth Erisman uses a three step methodology (Listen, Absorb, and Interact) in 24 sessions that will help Christians understand basic bible doctrine and theology. In Erisman's words, "The aim of this book is to see the church flourish for the glory of God. We are convinced that by designing this guide to be user-friendly but at the same time keeping Reformation depth, followers of Christ will have a transferable tool to become grounded in the faith.”
When I first became a Christian, I read through the Bible from Genesis through Revelation and supplemented my Bible reading with as many Christian related books as I could. My reading was a smorgasbord of books on defending the faith against cults, growing my faith, spiritual gifts, Calvinism, spiritual disciplines, the Trinity, etc. There was no rhyme or reason to what I read or studied. All I wanted was to know God and obey Him.
It wasn't until a few years later that I attended a church whose pastor taught Sunday evening classes that covered basic bible doctrines and biblical theology. It was there where I truly cut my teeth and received biblical training that grounded me in the faith and helped me bring everything I had studied together.
Erisman's book is a discipleship guide that will help the new believer get firmly rooted in the basics of their faith by covering topics such as justification, sanctification, prayer, temptation, the Trinity, God's will, Christ, and the attributes of God in a consistent and systematic method.
This is a ready to use out of the box resource for adult group study or one-on-one discipleship. Parents could use this guide to train their children with some modification, but it's best suited for adults.
