Zondervan Changes That Heal: The Four Shifts That Make Everything Better...And That Anyone Can Do

The Bible states that we're created in the image of God. But why don't we see a "family resemblance"? The problem, says Dr. Cloud, is underdeveloped "tasks" of maturing: bonding, separating from others, sorting out good and bad, and becoming an adult. Discover what changes to make to promote emotional and relational healing. Includes study guide. 368 pages, softcover from Zondervan.

This book has been very helpful in identifying traits of mine that may be due to my past. It puts words to how I feel or respond to different situations. Once I gain that understanding, then I am free to see and recognize the truth about myself, and then apply God's truth to my heart and life.

This book is just what I needed at this stage of my life. I am learning to set boundaries ("Boundaries" by Cloud & Townsend), and know I need to change some of my thoughts and following that some behaviours (which arise out of these thoughts).

It spells out in great detail how our past way of thinking, due to the fall, has blinded us to God's healing love. You will greatly benefit from reading and applying the material that is presented in this book to your heart.

The Grace and Truth chapter was especially helpful. Now when I find myself judging myself harshly I think "what would grace look like in this situation?"

This is the best self-help book I have read. It is an excellent book for spiritual, emotional, social, and physical growth. It is a reread.

As a survivor of childhood trauma I have had more healing and hope from this book than any other that I have read. It has made such a difference in my life and I have given it to several other people as it is so down to earth and easy to understand.

This is an excellent resource for understanding and dealing with issue in your life that you may not know are the root causes for problems in your life. This book is something that you may need to refer to at different times in your life. This book is a tool for help, not something you just reed from cover to cover and put away.

Changes That Heal was one of the hardest books I ever went through but the most effective for the healing I needed. This book was recommended to me for the preparation of my life's testimony and Missions Statement by a group, I was willingly but ultimately accountable to but the meer fact that I was able to go through this with the Workbook on my own was what perpelled me to continue with the grueling task of facing the truth about myself. The freedom I have experienced from the step by step explaination to ccomplish the tasks toward becoming an adult has become evident especially to my circle of family and friends. When I give my Testimony, I recommend this book and in the future plan to make an investment and have it available on my "Borb table" for purchase.

This is a great practical intro into Christian Developmental Psychology! I look trying to figure out what makes myself and others tick. It is a great foundation to learning how were are created, the building blocks we need to be mature in our faith, as well as the environment in which God teaches us (Grace Truth Time).

This book holds some incredible, but fairly simple truths that hold an amazing impact when they begin to sink in and take hold. Parts of it are just so very key to gaining progress in becoming free to be the person God created us to be. I have benefitted a great deal, and intend to keep learning more.

This book is very insightful. It helped me better to understand what I needed to do for myself. Dr. Cloud uses the bible as a means for his book and that is that part I love the most. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to heal from any kind of hurt.

I have suffered through severe depression for the past year due to several losses in my life including being fired from my church. This book along with several others was given to me by a pastoral counselor friend of mine and gave me insight and help in rebuilding my life and self-esteem. One thing that Cloud mentioned is that the result of mean-spirited people is like being run over by a truck and surviving. The victim has to put that aside and begin rehabilitation to recover. His insight and scriptural citations helped me to move from the position of victim and whining about what happened to me to gradually move into a position of victory. I am re-reading the book again and finding nuggets of gold that I didn't find before.

A truly life-changing and life-affirming book. It guides you through 4 of the most basic aspects of life that can catch up believers and keep them from becoming everything that God desires for them. I particularly was helped by the section of Dealing with Good and Bad. Though I had always understood grace on an intellectual level and even felt that I was good at giving grace to others, it was only after reading Changes that Heal that I understood how God intended grace for me as well, and learned how to accept it.

This is the most powerful book I have ever read. It has changed my life dramatically. My relationships with Jesus and with others have never been better after learning how to apply the principles in this book. I am deeply grateful to Henry Cloud and to the Lord for the information presented in "Changes That Heal."
