Thomas Nelson Romans 1-8: Word Biblical Commentary [WBC]

In these recent volumes in the Word Biblical Commentary, Dunn preserves the overall sweep of Paul's thought and emphasizes Paul's Jewish background as crucial to his argument---two needs often ignored by other commentators on Romans. Dunn's hearty approach is seldom found in scholarly writing. Hardcover.

I recently acquired 5 commentaries on Romans. This particular commentary is the most used and most recommended. Full of information you will NOT get in other commentaries. The amount of quality information and insight is top notch. The vocabulary of Dunn isn't difficult, it is easy to read or at least to me it is.I'm a pastor of a small Baptist Church and I'm getting ready in the very near future start a series of sermons from Romans 6, 7 and 8. This commentary has proved to be the one I've used the most in preparation.I would have given 5 full stars and this hasn't anything to do with the book, but FedEx is a joke.

This is an excellent commentary on Romans, and having both volumes of Dunn's work has caused me to be a new fan of his. He has made this important Pauline letter accessible to readers in a remarkable manner. Just his explanations of the third chapter of Romans makes the volume worth purchasing. While Cranfield's work on Romans is often lauded by others as the best, Dunn's work deserves to be considered at the top of the list as well. I highly recommend the series on Romans by James D. G. Dunn!!

Excellent commentaries. Thorough attention to original language, grammar, history, Pauls thought patterns, etc. I'll be looking for more of these for other epistles.
