Customer Reviews for Random House, Inc New Testament History

Random House, Inc New Testament History

The classic text, authoritative and ably researched. ''The first third of the book recounts the Roman and Jewish context, then fifty pages survey the lives of John and Jesus, and the last half is a history of the first two generations of the Church. The best available treatment by an evangelical,''---Christianity Today. 461 pages, softcover from Doubleday.

Excellent book! The content has been excellent. A corner of the book was crimped. Better packaging would eliminate damaged products.

Another great book by F.F Bruce.Extremely thorough with a plethora of information and attention to details. Can be overwhelming to read if your not use to Scholarly writing. I personally recommend it regardless. A good addition to any Pastor or student of the Written Word who wants to know the historical background of the N.T. era. Good stuff.

An excellent book by F.F.Bruce, who was a well respected author. In "New Testament History" he gives a lot of background to the New Testament stories, which in turn gave me a much greater understanding of the stories and events recorded in the New Testament. This is a must read for anyone who desires to truly understand the Bible.

This is the first book I have read on this subject so I can't compare it with any other. However, Bruce provides a loads of information here concerning the things that shaped the New Testament world; from the fall of the Persian Empire to the presence of Roman power. The reader will find helpful information about various topics, such as the philosophical schools, main religious and political parties, the Messianic hope, etc. Bruce also gives a brief survey of Christ's life and teaching and discusses the early history of the Church. Great book but I must warn this is not an easy reading.
