Thomas Nelson Hebrews 1-8: Word Biblical Commentary [WBC]

Acknowledging that the jury is still out on such basic matters as who wrote the Book of Hebrews and for whom it was written, William Lane humbly but forcefully sets his ideas alongside those of other writers and scholars. This commentary is a nice combination of technical comment and thoughtful theology. William Lane earned degrees from Gordon Divinity School, Westminster Theological Seminary and Harvard University.

I used the two-volume set as my reference for a two-year long Sunday School class on Hebrews. The depth of scholarship and clarity of presentation are unequaled! I highly recommend them.

If I walked away with nothing but a greater appreciation of the Greek and Hebrew language, that would be enough to recommend this commentary. But the extensive word study and technical detail that Dr. Lane provides yields incredible revelation for me as I study. It's like getting the panoramic view of a picture in time but also being able to see the finest of details. I look forward to using many more of these commentaries......they are the first that actually made me get out my Greek and Hebrew dictionary!

The late Dr. William L. Lane provided us with the most detailed work on Hebrews ever produced. It is very satisfying that this great work is from a solidly evangelical perspective. The introduction is magnificent. The work is technical and detailed, yet it is quite lucid for the informed layperson. If you at least know the Greek alphabet and can use an interlinear, you can follow the exegesis with great benefit. It is a goldmine for Greek students, pastors and teachers. This is the best work available on Hebrews.
