Michael Holmes has done a great job providing text, critical apparatus and translation of the Apostolic Fathers (70-150AD). I found this work accessible, scholarly and an invaluable aid for contextual appreciations of early Christianity and NT texts. Well worth the relatively small amount I paid for it from Christianbook.com! Phillip Lisle, PhD student, BA(Hons, History), BTheol (Biblical Studies)

As a long time student of the Greek NT, I find this work to be both stimulating and comforting. For years, I have considered the probable course of events that led the primitive church to take on the form of the post-apostolic church. More than any other volume, this book takes me to the time and events that caused those changes to occur. In order to understand the nature and form(s) of the church today, you must transport yourself back to time of the apostolic fathers. For me, this collection is the appropriate vehicle. It is a gift to the saints.
