I recently watched this series with my family and enjoyed it tremendously! We really appreciated the emphasis on the Robinson Family's faith in God throughout the series, that is often left out of other Swiss Family Robinson films, such as the Walt Disney version, which we own. I do agree with the others who reviewed the series in that there was too much time spent on the native heathens and their religion. While I would reccommend the series, I would not reccommend it to be given to children to watch alone and without explanation. In fact, nothing would be missed (as it is a long series) if you simply didn't view the episode centered on the shaman and devil worship. Other than this, it is a wonderful, well-made series!!

Our family began watching this series with hope of some challenge, enjoyment, etc. This was a very edgy series, not suitable for young children. We didn't even find it suitable for ourselves as the dark and demonic take over a large portion of the series. Two of the episodes are particularly disturbing; one of which takes some of the children into the same dream with a shaman. Together they journey in the "spirit world" to rescue Christina who is unconscious. The writers did not use the Robinson's Christian beliefs to challenge the approach in this episode. It is a very dark episode, which we kept hoping would resolve differently. No Christian challenge or response. If the demonic were challenged in these episodes, then perhaps family discussion would suffice to clarify any dark elements, but that is not the case.

This is an appealing story and well acted; however, for the sake of Christianity anyone who buys and watches this should know there is a lot of emphasis in several stories about a shaman and demonic activities that young viewers should not see. The family does adhere to a belief in God and there are references to the Bible. We could not recommend the series to young children.

We found that the Swiss Family Robinson was not what we had hoped for being dramatized...We were hoping more emphasis on Christ and less emphasis on the various demonic rituals completed of the natives....We were surprised that this dramatization was not more Christ centered as it appears in the version in the book. I would not recommend this video for children under 12 years of age & w/ the older children - I suggest follow-up conversations. We only looked at 1 DVD w/ 2 episodes and that was enough to stop....

The DVD's are good quality, but our rating would be higher were it not for the frequent and intense focus on tribal religion and false Gods. The DVD even shows the effectiveness of one tribal leader's chanting to his "God." Though these are decent, clean shows for the family, the intensity of the tribal rituals bothers us and frightens our younger children.
