Baker Academic Let the Nations Be Glad! DVD

In six-thirty minute sessions, pastor John piper offers a biblical defense of God's supremacy in all things, providing viewers with a sound theological foundation for missions. The topics, which correspond to Piper's best-selling book, include defining missions and defining peoples, the urgency of missions, the goal and the fuel of missions, prayer and suffering.

Churches often struggle with how to present missions to their members, but in this study series which includes a study guide and the classic book by Piper Let the Nations be Glad, churches now have access to a powerful tool that established the theological biblical mandate for missions, and encourages believers to be a part of God's mission in the world. Excellent for small groups study, Sunday School, and for challenging young adults. In six-thirty minute sessions, pastor John piper offers a biblical defense of God's supremacy in all things, providing viewers with a sound theological foundation for missions. I must admit at the outset of this review my bias. Everything that John Piper affixes his name to is worthy of consideration. I am presently faced with the task of mobilizing our church for missions in the new year and this DVD series is the place where we will begin. In six 30-minute segments (actually, it appears to be two one-hour lectures broken into smaller portions for group study), Piper presents an impassioned and exegetically sound plea for the church to reach the nations for the glory of God's name. The basis for his plea is the supremacy of God in all things. The title of the series is based on Psalm 67:3-4. It would be hard to watch these lectures and walk away without sensing the extreme privilege that falls to every child of God and every local church to carry out the Great Commission. Our church desperately needs to catch God's vision for the unreached people groups of the world (still more than 6,000!), and I believe that this is where we need to start. Not everything that needs to be said about missions is found here, but the viewer will come away with a strong foundation for building a theology of missions.
