We bought this movie and watched it expecting a movie with better beliefs than what we got. we were disappointed with the constant reminder that grandma & God were giving advice and running the lives of the family members. While there was lots of reference to God, a born-again Christian would have trouble with this film. I would recommend this film with a warning-don't expect the scriptural base to be solid.

This was a sweet movie that I watched once, but probably won't watch again. It was nice to see good moral values and hear Jesus talked about in a positive way instead of movies that use His name as a swear word. As another reviewer commented, it wasn't 100% theologically sound (i.e. "the Lord and the dead grandmother "led" Mary to the lodge"), but the moral values, family's love for each other and desire to help someone in need were commendable. I liked Jack and Mary as individuals, but the chemistry was missing between the actors. I felt the movie didn't develop the relationship storyline enough and the ending seemed rushed and unnatural. All in all, it was a pleasant way to send an evening.

Christmas Lodge was a great view and a great story. I started watching another Kinkade movie and had to change the channel. This one although predictable was great.
We are fans of Michael Shanks and thought he did a good job.
We liked the commentary behind the story and was pleased
with the Christian perspective.

It was a good movie, but it rushed through to the end where you feel like you missed something. They could have made it longer and more detailed for the ending. Overall we liked it.

Although not 100% theologically sound, I would still highly recommend this movie to anyone. It's very family friendly, emphasizes love & respect within families, faith, and helping those in need. There's even an underlying message of purity before marriage! Just a really sweet movie.

This is the kind of movie I'd watch once. I was disappointed that God's name was taken in vain twice. For that reason alone I wouldn't recommend this movie to a friend or let my kids watch it. The acting was not quite always convincing and the plot was predictable, but other than those objections, it was a mostly pleasant diversion while I worked on a project.

Great movie. It shows the values of family togetherness and at the same time draws the viewer into the fun and happiness that can be enjoyed through family loyalty. A movie that can be enjoyed by all ages.

Synopsis:
Thomas Kinkade presents Christmas Lodge: a place where a heart-warming past and loving future meet for one remarkable group of people. During a weekend trip to the mountains, Mary (Erin Karpluk) finds herself at the now- dilapidated lodge where she spent the holidays with her family growing up. She becomes determined to restore the building to its former glory. Inspired by her grandfather and guided by her grandmother in heaven, Mary throws herself into the project, and during the process finds herself drawn to Jack (Michael Shanks), a handsome man who loves the lodge as much as she does. Historically unlucky in love, this chance encounter allows Mary to renew her faith in life and discover her one true love. For an uplifting story about the importance of faith, family and the true holiday spirit, go to the Christmas Lodge.
Let's get the negative out of the way first: I was not overly impressed with much of the acting. Some were better than others, but no one gave a performance that really stood out for me. Also, some of the storyline had holes in it. There were simply a few things that seemed implausible, but I confess that I may just be too nitpicky. It is a pleasant film, but I did not get drawn into what I found to be a predictable, cookie-cutter story.
The positive is that I am always happy to see a film that portrays faith in a natural, matter of fact way. Most of the people I know are Christians, and I am accustomed to faith being a normal part of life. There was no dramatic "big deal" made over simple things such as Mary & her boyfriend staying in separate rooms on a weekend getaway. Prayer, Bible reading, and using Jesus as an example is simply the way this family lives normally. The family relationships are also portrayed as close and loving. While it is a bit bland, it is a good story that you can comfortably watch with friends and family for a cozy night at home.

Mary Tobin is blessed to be a woman who is not only successful, but has a great love of family and adventure for the outdoors. Working as a historical preservationist in the city, she loves to get away from the busyness by heading to Silver Falls where she has spent her childhood becoming familiar with the mountains, lakes and hiking trails she has come to love and adore. She finds this is where she can connect with God and her grandmother, who passed away a few years ago. It's also where she can feel at peace with her life.
While her and her boyfriend Kent spend the weekend in the mountains hiking, they come to the aid of a little girl, Charlene, who has followed her dog chasing a robin and has managed to sprain her ankle. When they take her back to her home, they find out she is the current resident and owner along with her father of the Christmas Lodge. This is the place Mary and her family have spent countless years and memories as a family and learn that it's in a state of disrepair.
When she meets the owner, Jack Rand, Charlene's dad, she offers to find out if her company will provide the funding through a grant to help with restoration. Lucky for her as well that her father and brothers own a contracting company and can provide an analysis for how much work it will take to bring it back to its former glory.
I received this heartwarming and charming DVD compliments of Propeller for my honest review and have to say as one who collects Christmas movies, this one has found a home! I LOVED it! Not only is it a Dove Approved family movie, the message behind the movie is one that we all need to remember during the busy holiday and that family is really what is the most important gift of the Christmas season and the memories we make year after year. I am so proud to be honored with reviewing this Thomas Kinkade movie and rate this one a 5 out of 5 stars.
