When you purchase The Excellent Wife book, be sure to also purchase this study guide. The study guide was fantastic and really helped reiterate the important points of each chapter that are essential to successfully (with God's grace) becoming and excellent wife. If you are buying the book, I'd definitely recommend buying the study guide with it!

I don't use study guides. I don't like them and they never do much for me. But this one is really helping things to hit home. Making sure I know the scriptures, and don't miss things. If you are studying The Excellent Wife, get the study guide also. I really feel like I am studying and learning godly principals.

We are planning a workshop in January and we are using the books The Excellent Wife and The Exemplary Husband. The Study Guides are very helpful in preparing the outlines for the different classes. We are using the two books The Excellent Wife and The Exemplary Husband in our Sunday School Class. They are wonderful resource books. I believe all married women should read The Excellent Wife. It gives insight into what God would have us to know and do in our married lives.

A excellent thought provoking companion to The Excellent Wife book. The study guide helps you to think about your own marriage and take steps to better it with God's help. A practical Biblical resource. Great for individuals or in a Women's Bible Study.

As a conservative, evangelical Christian who does actually believe that wives should be submissive, I still cannot recommend this book. She is pretty condemning of women who work outside of the home and doesn't leave much room for individual situations in which women have to work. She advocates going to church leaders or even government officials if you are being physically abused, but not removing one's self to safety until the situation is resolved. Also, according to Martha Peace, if you are lonely like Elijah or Jeremiah, you are probably sinning. "Overwhelming sorrow" is also sinful to her. (I don't know what she does with Jesus Christ saying he was "overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death".) I definitely would not recommend this to hurting women -- only to women who feel they already have it all together and are capable of taking the good in her book and confidently ignoring the unscriptural parts which she makes look scriptural. If you already feel like a failure or feel like your husband has sinned against you because of your own insufficiencies, this will reinforce that view powerfully and with scripture behind it (though usually not the whole contexts of the scriptural passages). If you want to be spurred toward positive thoughts and action and find solutions for your marriage and forgiveness for your failings and refuge in the Lord and God's love for you instead of abandonment and rejection, turn to God and His Word instead.
