Customer Reviews for Tyndale House The New Dare to Discipline

Tyndale House The New Dare to Discipline

From the long hair and bell-bottoms of the Woodstock generation to the spiked hair and pierced ears of the MTV crowd, the challenge of helping children mature into responsible adults hasn't changed. But this bestseller has! First published in 1970, it's now revised to offer today's parents Dobson's wise, up-to-the-minute counsel on raising confident, self-controlled kids. 276 pages, softcover from Tyndale.

It was a excellent book for child raising. It was not harsh or rigid, but balanced discipline.

Dr. Dobson has opened my eyes to see the value of discipline for my child. I am a mother who has been giving many graces and not enforcing the rules strictly, which has been confusing for my small child. After reading chapter after chapter I repented of my lack of discipine in the child disciplining area and started a consistent pattern. My child is understanding the rules a lot more clearly and is falling in line.
Today, it is trully a "DARE" to discipline. I have also appreciated Dr. Dobson's continuous advice about loving children and caring for them deeply. He insists that discipline must be balanced with love in order for it to work.
My love for my child has grown because I see discipline as medicine and not as a dreadful thing to do.

I bought my first Dare to Discipline 35 years ago at our pediatricians recommendation. Raised 3 kids BY THE BOOK.
Got 3 doctors now, Surgeon, Pharmacist and Lawyer with good hearts and great morals. Given away appoximately 30 copies to new parents.

We have a 2 1/2 year old son who is starting to become a bit of a handfull and after reading Dare to Discipline my husband & I feel much more confident about patiently (& lovingly) standing our ground in order to make him understand that defiance is not something we will allow.

This book was very helpful in gaining control of my children and my house.
It really helped my relationship with my children, they respected me more and we had fewer fights.
It also helped them to become more responsible.

I thought the books were great. We have been followers of Dr. Dobson raising our kids, and now we are passing the information on to our children as they are raising their children. I just hope they read the books and don't just let them collect dust.

My only regret in reading this book is that I hadn't read it before rearing my children. This book has given me insight into child rearing that could only come from God. I highly recommend this book to anyone who interacts with children, so that pretty much includes everyone. Thank you Dr. Dobson for writing this book. You've helped me understand my 5 year old granddaughter & made our lives much calmer.

If you only "ever" buy but one book, this has to be it! I raised my son, by Dr. Dobson's Christian methods, and had it not been for his Godly advice, I doubt that my son would be the Wonderful Christian man, husband, and father that he is today!

This book changed the lives of everyone in my family! I have 3 children; eleven, eight, and three. My youngest son was running our household. He brought chaos to everything we ever did. It was extremely hard for my older children as it limited what I was willing to do with them because I didn't want to deal with another behavior problem. This book is full on no nonsense tips and praise God do they work. Thanks Dr. Dobson! You have truly changed our lives!

We raised our daughter with the original Dare to Discipline. I purchased this version for her to use with her baby (due in September). I scanned through the book and loved what I saw. Im sure it will provide the same wonderful advice for my daughter as the original one did for us.

This is one of the best help books ever written. I am soon to be a grandmother and one of my daughters has asked for the books I used to raise her. She remembered the discipline with love and wants to do the sam with her child.

I am a grandmother who used the original Dare to Discipline book to raise my own kids. I swore by it then and I swear by it now. I purchased this newer version for one of my children for use with their own children. They have already told me that they see great improvements in their child. It's wonderful to know that Dr. Dobson's advice is as relevant now as it was when I was a young mother.

DARE TO DISCIPLINE is practical, biblical and easy to understand. About a year ago, I read Dr. Dobson's THE STRONG-WILLED CHILD, but it was mostly concepts and seemed a little too abstract once we hit the toddler years. DARE TO DISCIPLINE is the practical "how to" that goes along with the biblical concept of THE STRONG WILLED CHILD.

I haven't finished it yet, but so far this book has really hit home. I keep seeing descriptions of my son and find so much hope. I am not alone! This book provides balance and constructive advice on how to provide the needed structure for children to thrive. I really admire the work Dobson does and was not disappointed with this book. It is definitely a must have.
