Harvey's language course from the original McGuffy Educational Series teaches everything from the letters and syllables to rules of syntax and punctuation. It's good for advanced study beginning in about seventh grade and a great reference for a lifetime. 218 pages, hardcover.

Review 1 for Harvey's Revised English Grammar
There are much better grammar programs out there
Date:April 2, 2011
"Classical" is a word that's hip these days in homeschool circles, so maybe that's what some Harvey fans see in this program. I find very little to like about this program. For the record, I am good with grammar, so it's not that I find grammar a difficult subject (I enjoy it!).
There is almost no instruction, no review, and well, not much of anything. It might make an okay reference for your bookshelf, but I doubt it will be your go-to book for grammar inquiries. It is not a user-friendly program. The teacher better know his/her stuff, because Harvey's alone will not a grammarian make.
Easy Grammar Plus is a much, much better program to start with, and then you can continue with a fantastic textbook such as HBJ English Composition and Grammar or CLP Applications of Grammar. Continue with IEW. Anything but this.

Review 2 for Harvey's Revised English Grammar

Chock full of clear cut rules. This grammar guide is straight to the point with no frills and no confusion. If you like the McGuffey's Readers, this will be the perfect compliment. If you need lots of color and LOTS of exercises, it won't work. Works well for high schoolers, too.
