I started to read this very old commentary and found that it was not only good it was very great and next to John Calvin it's the perfect set. I think as well the print is small but that's ok still at 49 I can read it very easy. I wanted to get together with some friends of mine and redo this in larger type and maybe book by book and in the ESV version might be fun to restore ............... but for now this is a very good commentary ........ God Bless Matthew Poole !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One one hand, I'm grateful to have the Matthew Poole collection available; I'm grateful also for the publishing efforts, in general, of this publisher. I would rather have paid twice the price, however, to have this in 6 volumes and in a readable format. The print in this 3-volume edition is challenging for even younger eyes.

This is a very different type of commentary, from its layout to the King James language. But once you get used to it, the knowledge contained in these volumes is unmatched. A great Bible study tool.

Elegant set, nicely bound, but the actual commentary (not the biblical text which precedes it) is printed in a very small font, which is a challenge for older eyes.

Matthew Poole is an excellent commentator as should be expected from any man recommended by Charles Spurgeon. He speaks in what I call the "King James" language, and the print in this edition is small, however, I think any reader willing to spend some time in this set will benefit from his simplistic and challenging outtake on things.

This is a great little commentary set. I was a bit concerned that the print would be too small based on some of the comments that I read on this site. However, the price made the risk worth it. I will admit that the print is a bit small, but as a 49 year old man whose "up-close" vision is pretty good, I found the print to be no problem. I also found Matthew Poole to be more scholarly than Matthew Henry, and, as a pastor and a Bible school student, that is very important to me. I would recommend this set, ESPECIALLY FOR THIS PRICE! GO FOR IT!

I haven't had these for to long yet I can see a problem with the small print. They will be a good resource for my studies, but I wish the print was a little larger. If you have problems with small print, I don't think I can recommend this to you.

If you need a quicker commentary on each verse of the Bible, this is an excellent reference. However, the old English can sometimes be difficult to work with.

A great read. Much less wordy than Matthew Henry but terse, concise and informative. Verse-by-verse treatment. No difficulties avoided.I love this set though the print is a little small.

Great, old classic worth having even if you are not a Calvinist. Just eat the meat and spit out the (Calvinist) bones! At least you won't encounter any Arminianism.

There is so much information waiting to be encountered in these books. I can certainly understand why a great like Spurgeon would recommend this commentary set. On the other hand, I have to agree with the previous reviewer about the size of the type. I find my eyes get tired after awhile of reading this text. Nonetheless, I would recommend adding it to your collection of commentaries.
