My Ladies Bible Study group is doing this study. We have 2 more weeks to go. It is very relevant to what woman are going through these days trying to juggle so many activities and responsibilities. The comments have all been positive. Many ladies (including myself) have been convicted to simplify our lives to give more time to Bible study and prayer.

We are only into the fourth session of this study, but we are enjoying it immensely. It is an excellent tool for making women take a good look at their lives to see how God can help them simplify their lives by focusing more on their relationship with Him.

absolutely enjoyed this Bible Study book. I have found it to be perfect timing with my two little kiddos because I am a person who likes to do it all and forget that I don't have to do it all. Cynthia Heald provides great reminders that we are a society that likes to go, go, go, and go some more. That's not always good. What suffers when we're always going? Usually, it's our family and our relationships. This book has been going right along with God has been speaking to me lately about being intentional.
My favorite chapter was the first one where she was talking about abiding . She says "abiding is not an activity; it's a lifestyle." Is He my everything? Is my day centered around Him where not only my children see Him, but others that are around me?
Each chapter is fairly short and I was able to complete it in a day. However, I tended to break it up a little because it was so good and I wanted to dwell on certain points more and really focus on certain things during a week. This is a great study that could be done alone or in a small group setting.

Our ladies Bible study group declared they are so ready for this study on simplifying their lives. In a demanding world, we look forward to each week's lesson. We're early in the series, but already they are challenging each other in ways to "unclutter" their lives so as to be more in tune with Jesus!

I just finished this study this morning. I am thankful for its encouragement and all of the lessons God has taught me through it. Like the other studies in this series, Ms. Heald encourages the reader to dig into God's Word and sit with them. In this book, she expounds a bit more than she does in other books, but I enjoyed all the stories she shared. From the beginning, this study encouraged me because it didn't call me to shun the world or become something I don't think is even possible. In a search for simplicity, many people shun the world and think that that will bring a sense of peace and rest. I suppose for some it might. But, I realize now that a sense of peace and rest comes more from trusting the Lord with our days rather than from simply "doing less". Ms. Heald explains that the busyness of our world is never going to go away--so how can we live and rest in the Lord each day? That is the question this study is about. If you find yourself struggling to find peace with the Lord, I'd definitely recommend this study. I've loved it.

Careers, spouses, children, volunteerism and chores are just a few of the urgencies that women face. Cynthia Heald’s Becoming a Woman of Simplicity (2009) teaches women how to de-clutter their lives and reduce unnecessary distractions. Each chapter of this eleven-week Bible study follows a strict pattern. She opens each chapter with a scripture, quotation from a Christian writer and anecdote from Heald’s life or someone close. She then directs readers to different Biblical passages and provides discussion questions. Finally, she ends with a “thoughts from an older woman section” and a suggested verse to remember. Heald’s bible study can be used in groups or by individuals.
Giving the recent technology developments that place computers, smart phones, and other devices constantly within our grasps, Heald’s claim that simplicity outranks multitasking seems outdated at first glance. Heald, however, clearly explains that our ever-present goal in life should be to get closer to God. To do this, we must ensure that we make the most efficient and best use of our time. Unfortunately, it is sometimes difficult to discern between a good use of our time and the best use of our time. For example, Heald experienced this when she enrolled her children in daycare so that she could take the time to read to orphan children. Heald thought she has doing the best thing with her time until God explained to her that she should be at home with her own children.
Becoming a Woman of Simplicity is a great book for someone who feels overwhelmed by their daily responsibilities. Heald proves that it is still possible to live a simple life even in a technology-driven world. Although directed to women, men will also be able to profit from this book. I highly recommend this book as a method to overcome stress.

Cynthia Heald has written multiple Bible Studies including her “Becoming a Woman of…” series that are widely known to Christian women’s community. I had the pleasure of reviewing “Becoming a Woman of Simplicity.” Her studies are written so that they can be used in individual or group settings for women Each chapter begins with a scripture and an explanation of the topic, followed by questions regarding specific scriptures and how they apply to daily life. Each chapter ends with thoughts from an older woman, a reflection, and a scripture memory verse. As designed it could be completed in 11 weekly sessions, taking one chapter each week. From other sources, I have learned that all her studies in this series are 11 chapters long.
I think that any woman could benefit from this study as it addresses the busyness and chaos in our lives that we allow to distract and pull us away from our time with God. The author defines simplicity as living a life with God in control and spending time with him on a regular basis. The author has been well known as a Christian speaker and writer speaking at women’s engagements around the country.
I was supplied a free copy of this book from Navpress Publishers as part of their Blogger Review Program. I was not required to write a positive review and the opinions I express are my own.

Timely topic for our busy lives. Meeting the needs of our Bible Study group. Provokes so much discussion we usually take 2 weeks to do one lesson. Helpful for leader to select key words for definition. Class finds it helpful to review Bible passages of length in various versions.

This is a well thought out study that engages women and "hits home" with many struggles that women experience in their busy lives and the worldly influences that take us away from our daily devotion to God. Cynthia Heald teaches us well ways to deal with those struggles.

I'm not completely done with the book yet, but so far it seems to repeat the same themes in each chapter. I like the "Thoughts from an older woman" and the quotes, but often the questions for thought and discussion are only surface deep. Sometimes there are three questions on three passages that are closely related. It would be better to give the three passages to read and ask one question than ask the same question which has the same answer 3 different times.
