This book was excellent! I've read it once, listened to it on CD once, now now I'm giving away 10 of them for Christmas.
It taught me that we should treat our loved ones each day as if our days our numbered. We should have an attitude that monetary items don't matter. Making peace with the ones that mean alot to us is crucial. And, making peace with ourselves is most important...forgive yourself for those things we continually hang on to.
This book placed things in perspective for me.

I look forward to reading this book. I remember seeing the authors speak about this book on their television broadcast and it looks like a good teaching. The book is in perfect condition. The cover is clean, even pretty, inviting you to read the book.

Love, love, love the concept of this book! Having faced end-of-life crises with patients in the past, and more recently with a family member, this book really called out to me. Once you see mortality catch another off guard, you can't help but face the finite nature of your own life. How wonderful to have Christian authors help us "embrace our mortality and be empowered to live each day engaged in being fully alive."
But is that what One Month has done? Am I now "engaged in being fully alive", for having read One Month? Well, not exactly. That's not to say authors Kerry and Chris Shook don't give readers all the tools to embrace their mortality and engage in life. I'd actually say the extreme opposite is true. The Shook team may have actually gone overboard, to the book's detriment, in attempting to cover all possible issues in a 30-day time span.
For the first few days, I felt inspired, motivated, and convicted to make some changes in my life. But before I had finished even one week of the book, I realized 2 things:
Number One: too much information was covered in a given day. The daily readings averaged 6-8 pages, and included several multi-part reflection questions, and I do mean multi! In that sense, the ideas that were discussed and the questions that they spawned would have been better worked through over the course of a week (which, incidentally, would have made this a 30-week program... yikes!). There would be no way to actually make this degree of meaningful life change on a daily basis, with new life changes being added on a daily basis. And although many of the changes suggested didn't apply to my present life, I quickly became overwhelmed by all the ideas and inspirations accumulating each day.
Number Two: too many topics were addressed in the month. I hope it would be a rare person who struggles in each of these 30 areas in their daily life; I imagine most readers are like me, and gravitate towards a few key areas that need improvement. That being the case, I might prefer to spend a month reading only about the issues that apply to me, rather than trying to sift through every problem every reader might ever face. Thirty topic-specific days might have yielded more fruitful results.
Presumably, some readers will be inspired by this book. Hopefully most among that group will also feel the conviction to make the inspired changes, and be strengthened by God to follow through. Unfortunately, none of these were the case in my experience with One Month to Live.
I received this book free from WaterBrook Press for the purpose of providing my honest review. I was not required to give a positive review.

"One Month to Live" by Kerry and Chris Shook is a book chock full of great advice on living an abundant Christian life. It’s divided into four sections of seven or eight short chapters each: Live Passionately, Love Completely, Learn Humbly, and Leave Boldly. Each chapter contains an analogy or two from life experiences such as mountain climbing, scuba diving, and roller coaster riding. Readers are encouraged to enjoy one chapter a day for thirty days while considering how they would live their lives if they knew they only had thirty days left.
The title, "One Month to Live: Thirty Days to a No-Regrets Life," almost kept me from even considering the book. I chose to read it because I'd heard good things about the authors. But the concept itself sounded guilt-inducing, pressure filled, and perfectionistic. “Don’t waste a moment. Take advantage of every opportunity, or suffer the consequences and live with regret for the rest of your life!” This book is not that. The theme is simply the package that neatly wraps up all of the Shook’s ideas and leads readers to the corresponding website for more: www.onemonthtolive.com.
What the reader will find in this book is basic and sound, practical and biblical advice on Christian living. The Shooks encourage readers to love God, to love each other, to do whatever God leads them to do, and to encourage others to do the same. If you are looking for an upbeat and uplifting 30-day-devotional on how to live the Christian life, I recommend this book.
Thank you, Waterbrook Multnomah Publishers, for sending a complimentary copy for my honest review.

Ask yourself the hard questions, because someday starts today. "One Month to Live" is a book that will change your life, if you let it. It's a reminder that time is a precious commodity and a valuable, though limited resource. There are four universal principles guiding a life of no-regrets:
1. Live Passionately
2. Love Completely
3. Learn Humbly
4. Leave Boldly
Each of those principles is explored in a way that makes you think while making the focus personally applicable to your life. The book encourages you to stop waiting on "someday", but to live with passion and purpose everyday making the most of those 24 hours. I could not read those pages without examining my own life and what's most important to me. It reminds you that you don't have to wait until there is a crisis (terminal medical prognosis, death of a loved one, etc.) to start living each day knowing that the next one is not promised.
The daily assignments are appropriate regardless of your educational attainment, cultural background or economic status. I love how you can read this personally, or as a part of a group discussion, which I plan to do next. I've heard some say "it's too late for me", but this book lets you know that though it may be late, it's never too late if you're still here.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

I think that Kerry and Chris Shook have written a book that will be helpful, especially to new believers or beleivers who want to put their faith into practical action steps. I found the book easy to read and thought that they had some good analogies and advice.
The problem I had with the book was timing. I feel that in the last few years I have repeatedly read or heard the message contained in this book. As a result, the book did not impact me as much as it could have.
Of course, the ultimate test of the message in this book is whether or not I will apply what I have learned. I look forward to taking those practical steps.
I received a free publisher's copy of this book for review purposes from Multnomah's Blogging for Books.

How am I living my life? How am I spending my time? Am I living life to the fullest? "Living the dash"? Just a few questions that hit me in the face as I began reading One Month To Live. I began with the intention of a 30 day/one month journey, but I found that I could not put this book down. Be prepared for lots of self examination, hard questions to answer, challenges from the authors, and even a contract to sign - "The One-Month-To-Live-Challenge". This book will reveal to you a fresh and much-needed eternal perspective and you will be reminded of the true depth and meaning that God has in store for each of our lives. A great resource to help you live your life to the fullest: living the dash.

This book's premise is to live as if you only have one month left to live. What would you change? How would you live differently? Or would you?
Our lives are truly a vapor as the Bible tells us. No one knows for sure if this really is their last 30 days or not.....so why not live like it may be? This is actually something that God would have us do. Psalm 90:12 states: "Teach us to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom."
Kerry & Chris Shook come from a perspective of watching people live their last days. They have ministered to many in the final stages of death and have seen various reactions. This led them to challenge their staff to live the next 30 days as if it were their last and to journal what happened. That challenge led to this book.
The book is divided into 4 principles:
Live Passionately
Love Completely
Learn Humbly
Leave Boldly
They give daily challenges to complete with "make it count moments" questions and "make it last for life" actions.
The writing style is personal and friendly. This is not a "you'd better do it this way" book. I have found it to be encouraging, yet challenging. So much so that I have decided to take the challenge! Beginning March 1st, I am going to live as if I've only 30 days left...and journal it .

I purchased this book for the church library. One of our small group participants started reading it and now we hope to introduce it to the congregation and start a church wide study and also open it to anyone in the community that might want to join this group study as well. I feel this book has the same draw as Rick Warren had with his Purpose Driven series.
