I bought this book seeking some validation for my emotions and, perhaps, some guidance after losing my husband, my younger sister, and my mother all within a year. I am a Christian and, while I trust God's plan for my life, I still needed to deal with all of my human emotions. What's normal? What do I do with all the grief? How have other people done it? I didn't need Christian platitudes, I needed real life advice. This book provides it. So many times I read this author's words that seemed to come right out of my head/heart. I felt myself saying, "Yes, that's exactly how I feel." Not only am I still reading it myself, I have also bought copies for friends who are working through loss. I highly recommend it.

I was given this book by a dear friend who had lost her mother to cancer after my brother was killed suddenly in an accident. The short meditations are often spot-on with what we are feeling and going through, always gentle and hopeful, and accepting of where you are at the moment, never preachy. I got a copy for my parents, who loved it, and we also bought copies for my sister, my brother's wife, and adult stepson so we can be reading the same things on the same day, even though we are far apart. We bought the copies used, and as a testament to the quality of the writing it is clear that each book was read all the way through (creases in the bindings). Grief is such a long journey-- it's hard to drag your friends along, calling them months later with, "I'm unbearably sad today," when we all know there is nothing they can do to take it away. Having a little book, written by someone who has been through a sudden tragic loss, is very helpful. A little morsel every day is a reminder that we're not alone. This is not an exclusively Christian book though it does contain scripture, and would be an appropriate and accessible comfort for someone who is not religious.

This book was recommended to me when my son died. The author lost her child as well. Martha's words are pertinent and comforting. I am grateful she wrote this book.

I received one from a friend after my husband passed away and it has been very helpful. I have given this book to friends who have lost a loved one. I have two on hold here as two of my friends are close to losing a loved one.

I bought several copies after borrowing it from a support group's lending library. I now have one for myself and have given it to others who are grieving. It is being well received!!! Very well written; I always feel comforted by this devotional book.
