I can accept old films but this was soooo slow. It took so long for the actors to say or move it became distracting. The actor playing Hudson was too unsure, wimpy and seemed no model at all for mission work. He barely understood any doctrine - just plunged in. The movie seemed to be trying to make the point that Mullerism is the holy thing and only thing -- try to do things purposely with few plans or income and drag everyone else with you. I will reread the biography of Hudson Taylor to see if he is at all like the bland actor portraying him. China Inland was too influential to consist of anything as flimsy as portrayed in this movie. Quite disappointed and most of it is due to the weak personality of the actor. On the other hand, if the other reviewer said it seemed as authentic in scenery and sound as his own experience, then that is very good.

I used to watch the VHS version of this film with my Grandmother when I was a child. Now that I'm an adult and have traveled all over Asia, I can say that this film is even more important to me.
The bits of Chinese spoken in the film are as authentic as walking down a street there today (to my ears, anyway). The scenery? I believe this must have been filmed on location, because I could feel the crisp morning air and smell the smells that one experiences as they walk through small villages in Asia. Even small things are filmed with great care, such as the respect of elders and the aged. It's far cheaper than a ticket to Asia, and gives you a taste of what it's like on foreign mission fields.
The story is timeless, though you can tell this wasn't filmed last year. It shows how God worked in the life of one man who had a vision for fleshing out "Go ye therefore.." just as Jesus commanded us to do.
