Inter-varsity Press Worship, Community & the Triune God of Grace

Here is a book that sets our worship, commumion and language of God back on track. In a day when refinement of method and quality of experience are the guiding lights for many Christians, James Torrance points you to the indispensable "who" of worship, the triune God of grace.

Torrance's definition of worship is Trinitarian through and through and is a timely corrective for our egocentric tendencies: "Worship is our participation with the Holy Spirit in the Son's communion with the Father." Rather than viewing worship as a way to lead us into the presence of God (a means to an end), he suggests that it is God who is the initiator of all true worship, and thus worship is our faithful response. What brings us into the presence of God is the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. But God not only acted 'God-human ward' at the cross, He also acts 'human-Godward' through the high priestly ministry of Jesus. The true Worship Leader then is Jesus Christ! There is good theology in Torrance's work that will fill up what is lacking in much popular worship materials. One will certainly walk away with a whole set of new questions after reading this God-transforming-his people message. Don't worship to glorify God: worship is glorifying God, and He enables us to do so!
