Moody Publishers Balancing the Christian Life

Genuine and wholesome spirituality. This is the goal of all Christian living. It sounds so simple, doesn't it? Perhaps the principle may be, but living by the principle is another matter altogether. Ryrie reminds you that "the Bible must be the guide and test for all our experiences in the spiritual life...and if any experience fails to pass the test, it must be discarded." He warns that "an unbalanced application of the doctrines related to spirituality will result in an unbalanced Christian life." Ryrie examines key issues of spirituality, including sanctification, temptation, routine faithfulness and using your gifts.

A great preacher once told me, "The secret to the Christian life is balance." This is what this book does - gives balance.

There are many books on how to live the Christian Life, and I have found this to be my favorite. The first part of the book deals with biblical concepts of man and spirituality. The second part addresses our sanctification and personal responsibilities. The third part covers answers to problems that we experience in our Christian Walk. A Bonus is the study guide that can be used by yourself or a group. This is a book that you will refer to, time and time again, as it deals with our Sanctification in a very practical way. I highly recommend this book for a new believer, and long time believers as well. Everyone can learn from this incredible resource.

Good book. Ryrie does a good job giving us a book that can serve as a discipleship text for small group, Sunday School or personal study. He provides some of the best illustrative pictures for more complicated concepts of the Christian life. A worthwhile undertaking to read and work through study guide that accompanies newest edition

Ryrie has the gift of making the complex clear and comprehensible. He has dealt with all the crucial elements of true spirituality. This is an invaluable book as a tool in discipling young believers and all who need a jump-start to becoming mature in Christ.

Spiritual Disciplines for Christian LivingA biblically based look at spirituality, which the author defines as the goal of all Christian living. The book looks at some basic biblical concepts, personal responsiblities, and practical issues affecting Christians today. The study guide in the 25th Anniversary edition really complements the text by providing an opportunity to evaluate your own spiritual life topic by topic. It even allows room for those who might disagree with some of Dr. Ryrie's conclusions to develop a scriptural rationale for their positions. Also recommended: Knowing God, J.I. Packer So Great Salvation, C. Ryrie True Spirituality, Francis Schaeffer

The author is undoubtedly well-intentioned, however, his doctrine of the "carnal Christian" will mislead many.
