Through High Definition videography and expert narrative, Still Standing traces the life of Stonewall Jackson - from his orphaned childhood, to the Sunday School class he taught for African Americans, to the pivotal role he played as a General in the Civil War.
Still Standing is punctuated by narrative from noted historians James I. "Bud" Robertson Jr., Dr. George Grant, William Potter, Virginia Military Institute Col. Keith Gibson; and Francis Lightburn Cressman - great granddaughter of Civil War Union General Joseph Lightburn - among others. The film features striking new footage from Jackson's boyhood home near Weston, West Virginia; various locations in Lexington, Virginia, and other Civil War locales. 48 minutes on DVD with bonus features.

I watched Still Standing with my oldest son, who is not only a history buff but lover of all things Southern, a middle son who is on the fence on both and my young daughter who is 12 and curious. When it finished we turned it off and discussed it. We all found it to be enjoyable, enlightening and well done. Still Standing opened up an interesting and beneficial discussion of Stonewall Jackson’s life, the Civil War and things related thereto.
This DVD is well done, very well documented, insightful, beautifully photographed, historically accurate and enlightening. The filmmakers went all out to produce a quality film that gives us a glimpse into the life of a great American and a great Christian.
Stonewall Jackson, being from the South and thus on the losing side, is often maligned without cause. Few today take the time necessary to look at facts surrounding him or others involved in the War Between the States, choosing instead to either ignore the time or to give complete credence to the stories as they are so often told. That is not only not good scholarship but also rather a shame as, by doing so, many fellow Christians who were serious about their faith, Stonewall Jackson among them, are maligned or we come away from our studies or lack thereof, confused or misinformed. Still Standing: The Stonewall Jackson Story by Ken Carpenter is a good place to start to change this.

This documentary was good, no doubt, but that's what it was...a documentary. It depends on what you are looking for. My family and I found the movie that was made about him a little less informative, but much more satisfying.

Outstanding resource. This documentary looks at Stonewall Jackson's personal life of Christian faith and service, with reference to his public life as a general in the Confederate army. Fascinating account of a highly complex person who, nevertheless, had a very simple faith. His devotion to the men and women of the Sunday school he founded is impressive. After fighting a battle which secured for him one his greatest military victories, Jackson wrote a letter to the members of the Sunday school. He had enclosed his regular offering and expressed his hope that everyone was well, never mentioning the battle he had fought and won the day before. This documentary underlines the fact that he was a faithful Christian in the face of the terrible reality of slavery. Wonderful. Many Christian products are hailed as 'inspirational' with little justice, this film truly deserves that accolade.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this documentary. What an impressive person: complex, unpredictable, and very influential. A military genius, a devout Christian, a loving husband and father, and a loyal friend to the slaves in his family. As a Canadian I have always had a significant problem getting my mind around the reality of the war between the states. This film, which beautifully explores the human side of Jackson (as opposed to simply the military-leader side) has shed some much needed light for me. I recently read a history professor's comments on Jackson. He described the general as 'a bundle of oddities'--that, seriously, was the grand summation of this guys analysis. Appallingly shallow. This film corrects such ridiculous nonsense. The richness of Stonewall Jackson's character is wonderfully rendered by the filmmakers.I have become fascinated with the Civil War. Thanks to Franklin Springs Family Media for furnishing all of us with a first-rate biography of a leading figure of that war. BTW, the cinematography and musical score are outstanding. The scholars and other experts who lend their knowledge to the subject matter also are top-notch. Worth owning, especially for Civil War history buffs and homeschoolers.

Stonewall Jackson was an incredible man: a military genius, a committed family man, a devout Christian. This film doesn't spend much time talking about the War or Jackson's military accomplishments. Instead, this beautiful film focuses on Jackson's personal life, the tragedies of his youth, his gentle love for his wife, and his strong Christian character. This film is a must see!
