Zondervan Ezekiel: NIV Application Commentary [NIVAC]

When you are attempting to understand a book as enigmatic and as flatly strange as Ezekiel, you want a skill experienced guide who maintains a firm doctrinal grounding. Ian Duguid, author of this commentary Ezekiel [NIVAC] was a perfect selection for this job by editors of the NIVAC series as he has written extensively on the prophets and understand the critical task of translating their seemingly other worldly message into the lives of Christians today.

With a rarely-matched mastery of the entire prophetic corpus, Iain Duguid reminds us the message is as relevant today as in Ezekiel's day. This world is not our home, but we can learn to live as exiles, with endurance and hope.

This commentary is the best of its kind. The "Original Meaning" section is well written and well researched. The format of the series means that interaction with opposing viewpoints is fairly limited. If that is your interest, see Block, Greenberg, and Allen. However, even if Duguid had included only this section, the commentary still would have been worth the price. But he also excels in both the "Bridging Contexts" and "Contemporary Significance" sections. This means that even a complicated book like Ezekiel can be understood and applied by pastors, students, and laypersons. For those who are interested in both the original meaning of the text and its current application, this is by far the best treatment available.
