Yale University Press The Spirit of Early Christian Thought: Seeking the Face of God

In this eloquent introduction to early Christian thought, eminient religious historian Robert Louis Wilken examines the tradition of such figures as St. Augustine, Gregory of Nyssa, and others set in place. Wilken shows how these early thinkers constructed a new intellectual and spiritual world and can still be heard as living voices in the modern world. He describes how giants in Christian antiquity forged their intellectual worldviews and how they can still be living voices in the modern world.

"Copious erudition and an eye for apt quotations make this book as instructive for scholars as it is entertaining to the general public"---Theological Book Review

Good resource for those wanting an intro to Christian thought. At times a reader may need a Thesaurus but not enough to burden the understanding. Probably better for the slightly more advanced student, seminary or those working in fields of ministry as opposed to a casual reader. The price is attractive especially for the material. Comparative work or publications would cost much more.
