This is a very well presented and compelling adaptation of Dr. Ben Carson's biography of the same name. Here the cast captures the essence of the God driven, Christ centered, amazing story of the fatherless, angry, impoverished Ben Carson's rise from that "deprived" childhood to becoming one of the most accomplished surgeons and Americans in our country and the world's history. Here, the love, faith and determination of Ben's faith driven mother formed a foundation for the living proof of Ephesians 3:20, "[He] is able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all we ask or think, according to the power that works in us." Parents/Grandparents, show this to your children/grandchildren and have them read the book (I did).

This DVD is very well done, good acting, and a great production. It is especially moving because it is a true story. I bought the autobiography of the Doctors life and the movie brings out the jewels of his life story in such a way that it is truly entertaining. Thankfully they do not show a lot of the gore of the surgeries. I recommend this movie to anyone and everyone.

I have read the novel, "Gifted Hands" to my students for a number of years. This was the first year I did it as a class novel study with my fourth graders. They loved it! I had boys who never enjoy reading eagerly anticipating reading class. The book is filled with so many life lessons that could be applied to grade 4 and up. Though Ben is a Christian the book is not "preachy" and could easily be use in most public schools. It is well worth consideration for class use by teachers. The movie was the icing on the cake for my students. I was particularly impressed with how true the movie was to the novel.

I wish that movies like this one could be viewed in our public schools. Children need to know that they can become what they want to be, by putting in the work to study. So that their living circumstances, does not effect their future.

We showed this video at a family film night at our church which includes people from ages 8 to 80. Everyone enjoyed it. What I found interesting was how inspirational it was to the children (around age 10 - 12). I could just imagine this video motivating some of them to pursue medicine as a career with the intention of helping others.
