This book offers such a great challenge for young people. This is my go to gift for middle and high school students. I bought several copies to just hand out in youth group. Adults can benefit from this book as well. It has a good message for people of any age, reminds us to take the first hard step in what God wants us to do with our lives.

Title: Do Hard Things: A teenage rebellion against low expectations

    Author: Alex and Brett Harris

Date I Finished Reading: February 21,2013

    My Rating: 5/5

WARNING: If you do not want to be challenged or inspired to step out of your comfort zone and do something, then keep on walking, 'cause that is what this book is gonna do! Do Hard Things is the perfect book for our generation on rebelling against low expectations, and doing something hard, whether it is big or small.

I absolutely loved this book... and needed it too! Alex and Brett discuss very practical, very true points. They speak on things that keep us from striving towards and achieving big things, whether that is lies within the culture and media, or our own pride or fear. They explain to us where our mindsets are wrong, and how WE, teenagers can truly accomplish something amazing, whether it is ourselves individually, or us as a team. One point that I really needed was the reminder and encouragement to keep on doing the small hard things, cheerfully. They say that small things, such as chores, homework, and repetitive, even mundane duties help to strengthen us and to prepare us for the bigger hard things to come.

Alex and Brett did an amazing job on this book. They use humor, personal examples, and also the examples of others to encourage teenagers to stand up and step out. The book was actually fun to read.

I would say that I DEFINITELY recommend this book. Every teenager out there needs to read this and be motivated and encouraged to Do Hard Things.

Note: I received this book free from the publisher in exchange for my honest review. However, my opinions are my own.

I first heard of this book when it first came on the scene. The Harris brothers were young teens who were challenging the the way teens were living or expecting to live.

Now, 5 years later, it seems the complacent life style that many teens were living continues and perhaps has even gotten worse. It's acceptable to not make series choices or to not pursue hard things. Again and again, sullen attitudes, disrespect, or aimlessness seems commonplace and the acceptable because it's what teenagers are like.

I love this book - although it's certainly not perfect but because it challenges this complacent attitude that is so prevalent. I especially appreciate how it's not a merely a book that cheers you on and to be the best you can be - out of your own strength, but rather it's basis is in living for the glory of God - 1 Corinthians 10:31.

The book is relatable and readable, like a conversation with friends that have seen what can happen when you trust God and step out in faith. They break down their thoughts with lots of anecdotes and real life examples - that make sense to young and older, alike.

Although this book was meant for teens, I think it's certainly a book that those of any age can be challenged with. I definitely recommend this book and our whole family is reading it together so that we would all be willing to do those hard things that the Lord has laid before us.

What image comes to mind when you hear the word "teenager?" A messy room with piles of clothes on the floor? A large group of kids at the mall? Or is it worse than that? Drugs? Teen pregnancy? Alex and Brett Harris believe this is all society sees, or thinks is possible, for its youth. The worst part? Many teenagers have come to believe it as well. The Harris brothers are out to change that. They've started a "rebelution." A teenage rebellion against low expectations. And as this book shows, it's catching on.

This book is undoubtedly meant for teenagers, and even pre-teens. It will inspire and encourage them to open themselves to all sorts of possibilities and begin shaping their futures by doing hard things now. Alex and Brett are intelligent and inspiring young men.

I also urge adults to read this book, even though it is not speaking to adults. This book is a call to the youth of the world, but adults need to be there to encourage and support. Read the book, then give it to a teenager you know. Be ready to talk to them if they come to you with anything. You may even find inspiration to do your own hard things. I know I did.
