The Road to New Life: The Way of Jesus of Nazareth is the ideal guide through the process of salvation, fully explained. The book is perfect for giving to an unbeliever, new Christian, or to someone who said a prayer of salvation once but never really started following Jesus. It takes seekers step by step through the salvation process: love and sin, the Cross, repentance, faith, and surrender. The first five chapters have reflection questions and prayers to help the reader through the process. Surprisingly there are few if any books that explain the gospel and the responses to the gospel in a complete way.

This book fills that need extremely well. It helps the reader to understand what they are doing and to count the cost of becoming a follower of Jesus. This book will help avoid the problem of quickie conversions that don't really change the person. Covering themes of the kingdom of God, friendship with God, and community, it is tailored to reach hearts in a postmodern world. The book is ideal for training Christian workers in the gospel and how to explain the gospel. Thus, it should be very useful for church youth workers, pastors, evangelists, and missionaries.

I like The Road To New Life because the descriptions and insights Phil Rehberg gives in the book explain becoming a Christian in what I thought were easy common sense ideas. For example, at the very beginning he writes, "Since before time and space, God has existed in a perfect community of love. The three - God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit - are one divine being and take great joy in their relationship. God is a mysterious unity of three persons in one being, a tri-unity, the Trinity. The three live, create, and act together in one perfect harmony." To me, this feels like a beautiful, refreshing, orthodox description of the God of the Bible. A description scholars can accept and the rest of us can comprehend. That style continues throughout the book.

Here's more straightforward insight, this time into the personal struggles we all deal with: "Sometimes we are happy, but other times we are empty. Sometimes we love, and sometimes we hate. Sometimes we create, and sometimes we destroy. And we know things are not as they should be. Our minds are dark because we are disconnected from the source of truth. We call our wrongdoings 'mistakes.' We blame people who hurt us for the way we act. And we believe untruths about ourselves and about the Creator that prevents us from finding peace and happiness."

Rehberg observes, "Some people admire what Jesus taught, but they never respond to his invitation to follow him." He discusses this briefly then provides the following gentle simile, "It's like telling yourself you want to become a tennis player, but you don't spend the time and effort to do so." There's a lot more, but I'm mainly trying to draw attention to the style and manner of the book, which I found to be easy to read and simple to process.

Highly recommended for anyone wanting to know what Christianity is about, in a loving, gentle orthodox theological presentation.

I made a decision to follow Jesus and to become a Christian when I was five years old in a Sunday school classroom. That was 33 years ago. Through my weakness and brokenness as a human I’ve been trying to follow Him ever since. Without going into detail I’ve failed many times and many ways and have consistently returned to Jesus and His righteousness.

When I picked The Road to New Life I expected it to be about false conversions and the failure of the Church in America. Instead, while reading the book on an airplane flight from Kansas City to Seattle and I found myself genuinely and without condemnation convicted about my own lack of submission to the leadership of Jesus.

The Lord used this book to expose fear in my heart that prevented me from experiencing the freedom and love that comes as a result of trusting Jesus. With a strong desire to submit to His perfect leadership in a wholehearted way I sought professional counseling to help deal with my newly realized fear. The net result is that I have significantly more rest and peace in my inner man and I am a better father and husband.

I am extremely grateful that my friend suggested that I read the Road to New Life. It’s a simple book with the potential through the Holy Spirit to change hearts. If you want to know what a decision to follow Jesus really means or if you once prayed a prayer to receive Jesus and not much happened to I urge you to read this book.

The Road to New Life: The Way of Jesus of Nazareth explains the gospel message in the way I wish I could. Rehberg’s clear, descriptive language is easily understood, but still conveys profound concepts. The opening explanation of the nature of God became a meditation for me. Masterfully, the author wove together the difficult theological ideas of the nature of God, the Trinity, and the nature of Love, into a beautiful tapestry. I was so taken with the God presented in the first few pages that I wanted to read more; I wanted to know more about this fascinating Being.

The language and thoughtfulness of The Road to New Life make it easily accessible to those seeking to know more about Christ. The clear and respectful tone of the book, make it a wonderful primer for those who long to share their faith. No matter where one is on the road, Phil Rehberg gives us a practical guide to the Jesus of Nazareth.

It is perfect for ministry leaders and pastors who want a resource to give new Christians or people who are seeking real answers about Christianity.
