As alway, Baumbich's characters are likable and engaging. A very good story. I hated to see the last page. Liked as much as the Dearest Dorthy series.

I had listened to the Dearest Dorothy series on audio books (great to put them on my mp3 player!) and loved them. I read the quote by author, Cassandra King, about Stray Affections and thought yeah, right, a novel is going to change my life! Was I ever wrong! The book definitely helped me with issues I have been dealing with all my life. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. Charlene Baumbich is my favorite author, because she has helped me to extend grace to myself and others. Also, the stories were entertaining, endearing, and ALWAYS left me wanting more! What a blessing God is bestowing through her writings.

This book looks like it contains a very simplistic story. I caution potential readers, do NOT let that fool you. Cassandra, Betty, and the supporting cast are all deep, well-drawn, realistic characters, and their interactions are incredible. Charlene Baumbich did a great job of presenting both sides of the "Bad Betty" story, so that instead of seeing the typical abused girl with a horrible mother, we as readers get to see inside both their experiences with personal pain, and watch them truly heal. The snowglobe motif, and its spiritual implications, are both fascinating--you know, with unbelievable clarity, that Jesus' fingerprints are all over this incident in Cassandra's life. Some small bits of the plot felt coincidental and "too happy," but on the other hand, these are indeed small flaws in a great book. This one gets a hearty recommendation--I can't wait for more!

Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Make me to hear joy and gladness. Let the bones which Thou hast broken rejoice, Charlene starts her book out quoting Psalm 51:6-8 and begins to bring some of that scripture to life inside the pages of this book.This story is nestled in the middle of a quaint town where you discover friends and their families youll just adore. I loved how Carlene shows the funny, honest and serious side of family relationships and how they can work together. I believe its only by the grace of God that we can bloom and grow where we are planted. It takes courage to face your fears and let God have his way in your life, and in the lives of the people you are in relationship with.The main character Cassandra heads out to a Collectors Convention alone. Her best friend Margaret cancels at the last minute. Her husband Ken encourages her to go anyway. Hes got the kids, she needs take a break from lifes routine; go out and have fun. Little did she know how that little trip would change her life? Are we ever ready for when God intercedes on our behalf to put us on the path He would have us be on? Letting go and letting God be in control is not something any of us feel comfortable doing. Cassandra soon learns this on her trip.Will Ken and Cassandra trust God to work all things out for His glory and their good? Youll want to read this story and join in the mystery and fun as the author weaves a tale of healing, unconditional love, and second chances. Youll want to read Charlene Ann Baumbichs Dearest Dorothy series, with quirky, close-knot Midwestern small-town feel characters youll grow fond of just like the ones in this book. In the beginning I moved slowly through Stray Affections, but by the third chapter, I was in deep! This is not to say that the book moved slowly, it was just how it began to build for me. I thoroughly enjoyed Stray Affections. Cassie seemed like wonder woman to me. I couldn't quite understand why she didn't give herself the credit that she deserved, but then I realized it is the power of the way you are raised. The words of the mouth have a strong impact on a child. Well actually they have a strong impact on an adult as well. :)The story flowed well with me enjoying each character as I got to know them through the story. It was a mildly funny and touching story that was seriously charming. The author has a way of bringing up difficult issues but doing so with care, grace and softness. Each item was handled appropriately but truthfully which is not easy to do.I am very interested in Charlene Ann Braumbich's Dearest Dorothy series as well. I haven't picked one up yet, but I really appreciate her characterizations.

Charlene Ann Baumbich's Stray Affections is a lively and quirky story that will please any dog lover or snow globe collector. With the help of an unexpected "flurrious" event, the story moves forward at a good pace, bringing the characters together in a unique way. The author's writing style is distinctive and enthusiastic and I now want to read her Dear Dorothy series!

The story starts out by introducing us to Cassandra and her brood of 4 boys. We soon learn that she has a penchant for collecting knick-knacks of "critters" - usually dogs.She attends a Collectors' Convention, without her usual companion Margret, and gets swept away by a snow globe that contains three dogs and a young girl. She impulsively buys it - paying more than she probably should have - but pleased with herself anyway. Unfortunately the day end by her getting popped in the nose by a large bag, having her wallet stolen, and then being interviewed on TV as both her eyes are developing bruises.Her mom, Betty, sees the news and is immediately all over Cassandra with the "I told you so's". Cassandra and her mother have never had a great mother/daughter relationship. Cassandra's father passed when she was young and her mother was constantly putting her down, to the point where Cassandra and her friend Margret started calling her Bad Betty.The snow globe seems to be the only high point recently in Cassandra's life. Upon looking into it - soon after she purchased it - she has what she can only describe as a "flurrious" moment - where the snow in the globe twirled to the point of a white out. When it calmed down, the dogs and the little girl where gone.My thoughts: I enjoyed this book very much and read it in just a couple of sittings. I liked the way that all the story lines seemed to be in upheaval at the same time - and that they all could see the changes that were being made or needed to be made. I actually liked Bad Betty. It gave, what appeared to be a perfect life (Cassandra's) a little tension. I would recommend this book to a friend - good book to read in front of a cozy fire!

Charlene Ann Baumbich's writing style is so easy and well paced that it requires no effort to get caught up into her wonderful story.The story centers on Cassandra Higgins who is doing life, but not really living it. She sacrificed her dreams a long time ago. She felt that she didnt deserve them anymore.Cassandras life begins to take a wild and crazy turn when she purchases a snowglobe at a collectors convention. The figures inside the snowglobe remind her of herself and the dogs she loved as a child. With a rotten childhood marked by her fathers alcoholism and eventual suicide and her mothers unapproachable hardness, these animals had been her saving grace. Them and Grandpa Wonky. Somehow holding that snowglobe felt magical and it made her remember feelings and dreams that had been buried for years.When the figures disappear from the snowglobe Cassandra is mesmerized by the mystery of it.Her questions and obsessions about the snowglobe, combined with her erratic behavior, begin to stir the people around her to change.Stray Affections is a beautiful story of new beginnings and second chances.I also love the aspect of this story that reflects the different perspectives of the characters and how they perceive each other. I loved reading about Cassandras mom Bad Betty who didnt mean to be bad, but simply loved in a fearful way that her daughter read as judgement.I think its always good to be reminded about assumptions. Stray Affections is careful to show all the angles of a character making them full and solid enough to be believable . . .even familiar.This is a wonderful book. I loved the story. At the back of the book youll find recipes and a readers guide that just enhance this book with a bit more fun.Happy Reading!

Stray Affections by Charlene Ann Baumbich is a delightful and sweet story with a wonderful message of grace, love and forgiveness.Cassandra is a loving wife and mother of four boys who also runs a daycare out of her home. However, issues from her childhood and a long lost dream still haunt her. During an annual trip to a collector's convention she is captivated by a stunning snow globe. From the moment she sees this snow globe strange things start happening. She and her whole family are taken down a strange path on a wonderful journey that leads to all sorts of discoveries, twists and turns, fun and adventure. I loved the characters and the close-knit community setting in the story. The author makes you feel right at home and wishing you lived in this wonderful little town and right next door to these delightful characters.

I found "Stray Affections" by Charlene Ann Baumbich to be captivating, magical, tender and even healing. This is a story of love and loss, struggle and triumph, and releasing the old and embracing the new. The characters are memorable, the story is gripping, the pace is quick and the ending is very satisfying. The power of love and forgiveness are a threaded throughout, while hope and the excitement of new beginnings come together neatly in the end, like a lovely bow encircling a beautiful package.

Stray Affections by Charlene Ann Baumbich is a Snowglobe Connections novel, the first in a series. Cassandra Higgins has lived her entire life with a huge hole in her heart. Told by her grandfather that she would be the best veterinarian in Minnesota, she counted on that dream to make up for the way she felt she betrayed her childhood dog, Toby. But when she couldn't pass the classes, Cassie felt as though she failed Toby and God, so she settled for a life as a day care provider and mother of four rambunctious boys. She finds an unusual snowglobe with a little girl (whose hair matches Cassie's) holding three dogs. The purchase of the globe begins a chain reaction of events that shatters Cassie's peace of mind, upsets her relationship with her mother, and will end up changing their entire community. This unusual novel will keep readers guessing. Baumbich makes even the unsympathetic characters lovable. The power of the novel is in seeing how small seeds are planted and produce fruit through Burt's gentle affection and the mysterious snowglobe. This is a thoroughly enjoyable read.

I'm halfway through my Advanced Reader Copy and can't wait to finish this book! Baumbich's characters resonate with life as they deal with such issues as childhood neglect, infertility, parenting and friendship. In fact these characters have become so real to me that I found myself uttering a prayer for 'Bad Betty' this morning on my way to work! This story of mothers and daughters, husbands and wives and best friends will delight your spirit!
