I am returning it...

It is not substantial enough. Very brief and the questions are not necessarily what I would choose to ask the kids about it and do not go into enough depth.
I would have to agree with the other reviewer who gave it a negative review.

I didn't use this book as a textbook; instead I used Dr. Stobaugh's Skills for Rhetoric. This book is an excellent handbook to give me ideas on what to read next and also provide AWESOME insights into each book. Reading Companion for 50 Classics is a great option if you love reading, and desire to THINK about the stories you read.

I was very disappointed with this book. The coverage of each title was quite brief and superficial. The questions are no more thought-provoking than you can get on Sparks Notes online for free. A pricey book for not much substance.
