Review 1 for Innovative Transitions: How Change Can Take Your Church to the Next Level
Date:June 3, 2008
Dale Galloway and Warren Bird captured an excellent cross section of workable ideas, while emphasizing dependence on the mercies and grace of God in chruch building. Too many writings on this subject give most of the credit to the human techniques and not enough to God; almost forgetting that the real Church is His and we are given the great priviledge of participating in its building. "Innovative -" is well written and has some outstanding helps.

Review 2 for Innovative Transitions: How Change Can Take Your Church to the Next Level

This book was a huge encouragement and challenge, and chock full of both conceptual and practical ideas. Each chapter features a different pastor/church situation, concluding with the advice of that pastor on how they were able to transition their church into a larger, healthier family. At the end, I felt that I had carried on a brief conversation with each pastor. Not all of the advice was useful to me in my situation of course, but it never will be. My only complaint, if you can call it that, is that all of the churches (mega-churches dependant on your definition) featured were in urban or heavily populated suburban areas, meaning that the churches started with more people and resources for the transitions than their rural or suburban brothers and sisters may have. I would have really liked the account of a church that started with less than a hundred and now has less than five hundred attendees - any pastor who had those lower numbers would have made it a more well-rounded book I think. However, even with the higher numbers, I only felt that a few ideas were useless to the less populated ministries. Would HIGHLY recommend to any pastor who is in or soon may be entering a church that needs to get out of stagnancy and make a transition to greater outreach and renewed vibrancy!
