I loved the essence of this veggietales episode. The teaching of the story is very good, but I made a mistake of not watching it before showing it to my 3 year old. There's a scene where a scary Giant pickle comes along screaming and making a fuss, and my son (who is a very big fan of veggietales) screamed and cried when he saw that. He was very scared...... it's a good episode, but not for little ones.

Take a wild guess what this VeggieTales movie is based from lol. Yeah I think you're easily able to determine this is based off of the classic Robin Hood tale. Of course like Pistachio: The Little Boy that Woodn't, this will also have the VeggieTale flair to the story. I recently heard of Robin Good and his not so merry men after watching another VeggieTale film recently and since I am a fan of theirs I wanted to check this out for myself. In particular, I thought the trailer was interesting in that they reveal Robin Good encourages his men to NOT steal; unlike the original story.
Robin Good contains two stories within this DVD feature. The beginnning, short story is about a birthday boy who is upset no one knows his birthday is today. He has to deal with the rejection of his parents, siblings, friends, classmates, and even his teacher. Of course then again maybe his birthday might not actually be today...? As for the Robin Good story itself, this begins as the classic Robin Hood story does: the prince is taking things away from the townspeople and giving it to himself. Robin Good and his men are not happy of this, especially because the Sheriff of Bethlingham is compelled to take a ham from a poor widow after Robin Good and others fundraised money to buy the ham for her in the first place. Robin Good's men desire to steal from the prince, but Robin Good determines this is the wrong way to deal with the situation and plans another option...
Lol I think the silly song about Bubble Rap is pretty funny; I like how they're poking fun at mainstream, unsaved musicians like the Black Eyed Peas. (that and Khalili returns!) The story with Junior getting upset about his birthday is pretty clever, though there are certainly worser stories of hurt they could have addressed; but yeah I understand this is targeted primarily for kids. I thought the Robin Good tale was clever in that not only do they show the men stealing get in trouble because of it, but at the same time they show how to address a troublesome situation; through a humorous way of course. I didn't think this was as good of a story as others I've seen from them in the past, but like the other stories I've watched this is overall very good as usual.

The kids really like it. I always like the story of Robin Hood, and the Veggie tales are good examples of christian values.

Even though my children are grown, I still continue to purchase VeggieTales because of the biblical based stories that I can share with any young children that may visit.

Veggie Tales has done it again! This is a great story of doing the right thing, even if everyone else is doing the wrong thing. Also, Robin showed mercy when his friends saw their wrong and was caught. Definitely a good movie, well worth your money.

In my opinion, you're never too old for VeggieTales. Which is why I bought this DVD as much for myself as for the kids in my house. (I make sure that our Veggie collection stays up-to-date. ;) ) As with all VeggieTales movies, this one is fun and heartwarming, with a message that applies to kids and adults alike.
The first short show of this installment, "Lenny and the Lost Birthday", captures all the angst of a young child who believes his birthday has been forgotten. Told in classic Bob-as-the-narrator rhyme, this little tale lets children know that God still remembers us even when we feel forgotten by everyone else.
The silly song features a hilarious return of everyone's favorite Veggie pop group "Boyz in the Sink", now abbreviated as "B.I.T.S". (Perhaps playing off of the Christian rap group "Grits"?) The adorable Veggie band of Larry, Junior, Mr. Lunt and Jimmy Gourd make a resurgence of the hip hop style that they began in "A Mess Down in Egypt”. “Bubble Rap”, the Boyz’s third video appearance, has the look and feel of a modern hip hop music video, complete with a cameo appearance by the loveable caterpillar, Khalil, known here by his rap name “K-Lil’-DittyDo”. (Oh, and let’s not forget the autotune.) Created once again by the irreplaceable Mike Nawrocki, this silly song became an immediate addition to my long list of favorites and is, I think, one of the best that Big Idea has dished out in a while.
Arriving at the main event, we meet Robin Good and his hysterical band of fund-raising buddies. Once again taking on the role of a classic hero, Larry teaches several lessons throughout the course of this episode. The main theme, of course, is that no hurt is too big for God, but the lesson doesn’t stop there. Through his bravery and courage, Larry (or Robin) also shows that it’s important to always do the right thing and stand for God even when you’re standing alone. His compassion and unrelenting desire to quietly “fight” for the good of the people even inspires the good-hearted but fearful sheriff (played by Bob the Tomato) to finally stand up to the selfish “Prince of Ham”, thus risking his own freedom to help Robin. The story takes a clever John Bunyan turn by implementing “the dungeon of despair”, throwing in a deeper understanding of hurt and hopelessness while still keeping things light and not too serious for the kids.
All that said, I’d encourage you to make “Robin Good and His Not-So-Merry-Men” an addition to your plate of Veggies. Just remember … God loves you very much! And there’s no hurt too big for Him to handle.
