It is cause for excitement to see a new edition of this great modern classic of theology. In 1978 I was given this book to read and as an Arminian didn't know anything about Calvinism. What I discovered in the pages of this little book changed my entire view of the Christian life and gave me assurance about my salvation in Christ. I had not realized how totally confused (or rather taught incorrectly) I was about the Bible's teaching on salvation. I read the book and had many questions and was able to write to Dr. Palmer. He did write back and encouraged me and was so gracious and was able to suggest other books as well as lead me to the Bible. This book is a series of sermons on the five points of Calvinism. They are clear, incredibly Biblical and life changing. Dr. Palmer had a doctorate in Greek, was at one time a professor at Westminster Seminary and was the General Secretary of the NIV Bible project. He went to Glory in 1980 (there is a dedication page to him in the NIV Study Bible). If you want to understand reformed doctrine here is a book that will become a treasured friend. I have read it at least eight times. It is a masterpiece of theology and very understandable.
