Written to give "the average Christian reader a basic knowledge of what the Holy Bible is all about," the Believer's Bible Commentary is a one-volume commentary on the entire Bible based on the New King James Version (NKJV).
Author William MacDonald has compiled an insightful and applicable commentary, with introductions, notes, and bibliographies for each book of the Bible. The Believer's Bible Commentary is both a verse-by-verse exposition (in the New Testament, Psalms, Proverbs, and Ecclesiastes) and a paragraph-by-paragraph exposition (all other Old Testament books). Passages in the Old Testament which point toward Christ are given special attention.

This was bought as a gift, as we have used our copy for years, and refer to it at least weekly! Mr. MacDonald writes in an easy to follow manner and has many practical applications. His quotes from other Bible scholars and use of appropriate poetry makes it a very enjoyable read. The only caution I would give is, this does not go into great detail on some passages that present problems, but it is an excellent overview and I feel every household would benefit by having and using a copy.

I have found this to be very helpful. Helps me understand things better when I start to get confused.
My only complaint and the reason for not giving 5 stars is that the maneuverability is sometimes difficult. I like to be able to move back and forth between the bible and the commentary. When I do this the commentary goes back to the beginning all the time or some location that I was not at.

I am very familiar with the print edition of this fantastic resource document. The e-edition is unpredictable and difficult to find specific verse commentaries. The only way to find a page even close to the verse being researched is to use the outline sections. This is slow and cumbersome. To further complicate the process, the software frequently crashes and closes the software so you can then start over. As a result, you find yourself "leafing" through an electronic document just like a paper book. You should be able to at least simply find a chapter and verse in the commentary section just like my e- Bibles function.

I have been looking for a commentary such as this for a long time. It's very helpful when I'm preparing my messages. Not only then, but it's helpful when just study and reading the Bible. It's easy reading. The print is just the right size. I would recommend this book to anyone who leads a Bible study group.

My Bible study plan is in transition right now(schedule conflict) so I have only been able to use the commentary for my daily devotional. Shortly it will become part of my actual Bible study. I find it very informative without overloading me with information that takes me away from actually reading the Bible. Also seems to be written to the laymen but not elementary. Great resource.
