To any who have benefited from the other biblical/theological expositions of Sinclair Ferguson, picking up his contribution to the Preacher's Commentary on the book of Daniel is a no-brainer. To those not yet familiar with him as an author, he has a wonderful ability to bring out the main themes of the book in a way that is personally challenging, professionally suggestive for the Bible teacher, and most importantly biblically well-integrated. He ties the events of Daniel's first six chapters to themes throughout the Bible, bringing theological and doxological insights to greater light. It is also refreshing to note that this exposition is not at all "dry", but written in a warm, personal style which makes it a pleasure to read!

In terms of the more prophetic section of Daniel (ch. 7-12), all I can say at this point is that I anticipate sound interpretation and much more Christ-centered exposition and valid application than often occurs when many deal with predictive prophecy (I say anticipate because we are still going through the first 6 chapters in our study of Daniel, and I try not to depend on ANY commentary until I have studied the text myself).

I am grateful that his exposition has been made available as an ebook in epub format; even though actual paper books will always be more enjoyable to read, it is great to obtain the content at a lower price and in a format that does not require even more bookcases in our home!

Finally, the purpose of this commentary is not to provide detailed exegesis of every word and heavily detailed background/cultural information, so if that is what you are seeking, there are other commentaries whose purpose fits that description very well.

This review was written for The Preacher's Commentary Vol 21: Daniel.
This commentary is really good for sermon topics. However I really wouldn't call it a commentary, although there is some great information in it, this isn't a commentary it's more of a list of sermons based on specific verses throughout Daniel.
