This book was an excellent resource for me. Our small group program has been struggling for the past few years in spite of our best efforts. This book challenged, in a positive way, the assumptions that our small group program had been based on.
I had always been taught that small groups must be run with certain assumptions in mind. The problem is that those particular assumptions did not fit my ministry context. This book confirmed many of my own ideas that I believed would work in my particular context.
This book is great especially if your small group program is struggling and there is no obvious reason why. It will help you rethink many of the underlying assumptions that are probably causing the problems you are experiencing.
As with any resource this book isn't perfect. I didn't agree with everything that was said and not everything that was recommended could be applied to my situation. There are some real jewels of information and suggestions in this book. It is a must read for anyone overseeing a small group program, whether that program is going well or not so well.
A very helpful and practical book. His ideas are fresh. Though there are some things that may never work in my situation, there are enough gold nuggets in the book that make it worth more than the price. Every church who desires to have a small group or Sunday school should get this book!
This is an excellent book. It takes a fresh look at some commonly held ideas regarding small group that have caused many small group ministries to languish. It sets CW (Conventional Wisdom) on it's ear and shares new paradigms regarding small-group methodology, structure, strategy, and leadership then moves on to share a relatively simple yet thorough plan for implementation.
