I am so very pleased with my purchase of the eBook version of the Orthodox Study Bible. It gives me yet another opportunity to have it near me in all of my devices both portable and home-based. I would highly recommend this to anyone interested in having the same experience.

I purchased this item to use with my Pandigital E-Reader. It was one of the listed readers that was supported. However, I was not able to download this ebook to my reader. My Pandigital has the latest Android Software from the Pandigital website. Neither the CBDreader or the Digital Editions will download to the reader. I finally got the e-book to download to my desktop and tried to print out the pages on the Introduction to the Orthodox Church section. It keeps skipping some of the pages and will not allow me to print the pages being selected individually or as part of the group.
My complaint is that for me this is neither portable or useful for study since I am unable to import nor export text. Any note taking has to be done with pencil and paper while looking at the computer monitor.

The helps in this Bible do an excellent job of explaining who, what, when , and where the Orthodox Church is.
Great worship tools included.

There are soberminded, negative critiques available for this study Bible. They are well worth reading to help one decide whether or not this is a Bible to purchase. I also would like to address the question about why the words of Christ are not printed in red. Priests have explained to me that we do not split apart the Holy Trinity this way, as if the words of Christ are "more important" than the words and work of either the Father or of the Holy Spirit. God is One in Holy Trinity, and the "red ink" subtly implies a separation. Makes sense to me, and I hope it will be helpful to others as an Orthodox explanation.

The notations accompanying the text are generally brief and yet still have a depth to their theology. The Orthodox approach and presentation of the text is theologically tenable and thoroughly logical. For those who are accustomed to the scholarship of the MacArthur's and Scofield's of the world the Orthodox notes will be mind-blowing. The purchase is valuable if for no other reason than the English translation of the Septuagint that is published within.

This bible fulfills the goals of its publishers and, because of the commentary drawn from the early Church Fathers, it would be a most edifying addition to a non-Orthodox collection. It is essential for English speaking Orthodox.

I just started reading the Orthodox Study bible and so far I find it to be a valuable source for bible study. The notes at the bottom of each page are very helpful in providing a deeper level of understanding. The information provided about Orthodox Christianity is also very informative, even to a person who has been raised in the Orthodox Christian tradition.

This is a well thought-out volume with excellent commentary and study notes. It is easy to read with clear, large type. The notes draw from Patristic sources which pre-suppose Faith rather than the skeptical "scholarship" that readers are usually subjected to. It also presents an excellent counter-balance to the Protestant/Evangelical viewpoint found in most other Bibles. The translation is very well done, and it is enriching to be able to use a translation based on the Septuagint. The icons are lovely. Reading this Bible is a truly prayerful experience.

This Study Bible fills in the space between the Jewish Study Bible and protestant versions. There is a wealth of information and the alternate OT text is welcome. This is only the second source of material I have found. Thank you for providing this link to our roots.

My first observation is that only part of the Septuagint appears to have been translated; otherwise in most of the Hebrew Scriptures the Hebrew text serves as basis of the translation unless there is a wide divergence from the Septuagint. This is okay in the sense that the meaning is not radically altered and it certainly allowed them to get the edition out faster for sale.I found the commentaries rather disappointing. For a Study Bible that touts that it is going to allow Ancient Christianity to speak, few of the footnotes really provided any significant insight into the texts, particularly from a typological or allegorical viewpoint. My impression is that the footnotes were designed with Protestant in mind.

Finally, we can now read and understand the Holy Scriptures of our Christian faith with the same eyes as the earliest Christians, before all these divisions and denominational views. Truly, this is a predenominational work that every Christian must have and use--it is wrong called the "Orthodox" study Bible, as it should be called the Ancient or Original Study Bible. Truly refreshing: praise Jesus!!!

Let me first say that I'm not qualified to say whether this is a good study Bible for those of the Orthodox tradition. My interest in it is as a tool for Protestants to get a different perspective on the Bible and maybe learning something about Orthodox thought. My favorite features: First, the commentary notes include quotations from the church fathers - including Athanasius, Irenaeus, and John Chrysostom. Second, it has an index of the notes by topic. Third, it has quite a few beautiful photographs of Christian art with ... an eastern influence. Fourth, it includes a modern translation of the "deuterocanonical" books. Positives: First and foremost, the notes and articles present, as I understand it anyway, a good picture of the Orthodox perspective - e.g., their views on justification, deification, and Mary. The commentary is often devotional as well as informative. This study Bible is also very good at showing connections between the OT and NT. Finally, it sees Christ and/or the Trinity in everything in the OT. Negatives: It sees Christ and/or the Trinity in everything in the OT; sometimes it seems to be a bit of a stretch. It also sees an apologetic for the Orthodox Church in strange places (e.g., Leviticus 10). The OT translation is occasionally a little odd (NT is NKJ, OT is a new translation based on the LXX), and the OT chapters are occasionally numbered (Psalms) or ordered (Jeremiah and Malachi) differently than what we in the West are used to. Finally, the notes and articles occasionally present Protestant views in ways I felt was not entirely accurate in the process of trying to refute them. I would certainly never recommend that anyone have this as their sole study Bible, but I think it would be a useful addition to the library of any who are interested in examining varying perspectives on the Bible.

More than a study Bible; this is an attractive work of art that begs to be opened, seen, and read. The Old Testament translation has a subtly milder tone than many English translations. Very pleasing fonts, watermarks, iconography, maps, and clearly-written footnotes. Also contains a subject index, glossary, lectionary, prayers, and essays.

This is an excellent Version of the Bible for Study. It makes the full text of the Rahlf's Septuagint accessible to the English reader. Authoritative articles on the history of Orthodoxy from an Orthodox viewpoint, an Orthodox lectionary with indication in the notes to text when that passage is used, and the ancient sources for annotations, are most useful. This reviewer wishes that the "Orthodox Bible" encompassed the other Orthodox traditions, such as the Russian as well. It is well priced for the value it contains to students and pastors for whom the Greek of the LXX and the Orthodox traditions are terra incognita.

I was excited to hear that a study Bible had been done for the Orthodox Church. I teach world religions and like to have resources to point to. When I received my copy I was eager to delve in. I found exactly what I was looking for; a source telling me about the beliefs and practices of the Orthodox Church. It has a great section on the history and numerous articles that introduce various concepts and beliefs of the Orthodox Church. In this aspect I was very satisfied. As a pastor I was rather disappointed. As a study Bible it failed to meet my expectations. There are many notes and some do a fine job of helping you understand the text, but this Bible seems to have Orthodox belief in mind explaining how the passage connects to Orthodox belief and worship. I also found that some of the notes were not very relative while more important information which helps to clarify a passage was omitted. I highly recommend this Bible for those interested in learning more about the Orthodox Church; its history, beliefs and practices. I recommend finding another study Bible for those who want help in studying the Scripture.
