I looked through the commentary before giving it to my nephew for Christmas and was very impressed. I have several commentaries of my own hich were used for classes at LU and their seminary. Being familiar with John MacArthur, I would recommend everything he writes. My nephew is battling cancer and enjoys intense Bible study so I could think of no greater gift for him at this point in his life.

If you already have a macarthur bible do not waste your time. The commentary book is just a compliation of the commentary in your bible. There is nothing else.

John MacArthur is extremely knowledgeable and communicates this knowledge in an easily understandable way. I had the New Testament commentary and liked it so much I wanted the entire Bible commentary. I am very happy with the commentary and would recommend it to others

This is not a "commentary" at all, but a collection of all the footnotes from MacArthur's study Bible. It would be useful if you did not have that study Bible, but not if you did - and I do. I wanted a real commentary. I have given this book away.

Our SS class has used MacArthur's books in the past 2 years and find them very educational. As a teacher, I find the format of his study guides and books very user friendly.
We have just completed "Twelve Ordinary Men" and will begin the "Twelve Extraordinary Women" after Easter. He surely has a gift for writing and discernment of God's word.

I love the many insights John MacArthur has, but because his teaching style is to go verse-by-verse, the end result is a little choppy to read. The MacArthur handbook is a useful compliment because it gives book-by-book overviews. I would recommend buying both. If you're looking for a commentary that goes section-by-section, I recommend Bible Knowledge, Expositor's, or Williams' Complete Bible Commentary.
