David C. Cook On Guard - eBook

This concise guide is filled with illustrations, sidebars, and memorizable steps to help Christians stand their ground and defend their faith with reason and precision. In his engaging style, Dr. Craig offers four arguments for God's existence, defends the historicity of Jesus' personal claims and resurrection, addresses the problem of suffering, and shows why religious relativism doesn't work. Along the way, he shares his story of following God's call in his own life.

This one-stop, how-to-defend-your-faith manual will equip Christians to advance faith conversations deliberately, applying straightforward, cool-headed arguments. They will discover not just what they believe, but why they believe-and how being on guard with the truth has the power to change lives forever.

I just finished this book and at the end of each section, I ask myself the question; what did I just read. I was hoping that Dr. Craig would simplify the answers to objection.

Dr. Craig did an awesome job in bringing the study of "apologetics" to those in the pew! I am grateful!

Dr. William Lane Craig is one of the premiere apologists of our day. He has debated atheists and left them scratching their heads with the profound nature of his arguments. Dr. Craig is especially known for his resurrection of the Kalaam Cosmological Argument and for his arguments for the literal bodily resurrection of Jesus.
If you are interested in apologetics, start here before engaging Craig's other works, especially his masterpiece "Reasonable Faith." If you are able to master the arguments in this work, then you will be better prepared for the articulate and detailed arguments given in "Reasonable Faith." I highly recommend this book for everyone. This book is good for those of all ages and all backgrounds.
For the Christian, your faith will be strengthened. For the skeptic, many of your questions will be answered. For the atheist, your beliefs will be challenged.

I live in Canada where most people are unchurced. Our schools and workplace are very secularized and pluarlistic. Without good reasons for why we beleive, we are sitting ducks against the prevailing mindsets and worldviews in our country. Dr. Craig is the best and most humble defender of the faith today in my opinion, and this book gives Christians a reasonable response when asked about the hope we have in us. Please buy this book for your family and churches.

This is a good book to pick up, with some compelling arguments, although it doesn't cover any new ground compared to his other book Reasonable Faith.

I am almost done. Some of it is a little hard to follow, but it really helps you get a handle on how to deal with objections. I think everyone should read this book.

If you have ever wondered what apologetics is or if God even exists, then On Guard is the book for you to read. William Lane Craig writes a fairly easy-to-understand book in a fun and easy-reading style that walks you through both of these questions and many more. Besides the good content, the sidebar definitions, quotes, pictures, facts, and the Talk About It boxes make this a wonderfully interactive book. While this book would be for older teens and adults, and take time to read and possibly re-read sections to get a good handle on the subject, it is well worth the time and effort. It will be a book you refer to over and over again. * * * * *This review copy was provided courtesy of The B&B Media group

On Guard is a fantastic resource, if youre looking for clarity regarding Christian Apologetics. Many Christians have no idea what the word apologetics actually means, much less, how to effectively share their faith or defend the Gospel. Christian apologetics simply means making a case for and defending the truth of the Gospel.William Lane Craig takes readers through the basics and explains why apologetics is so important in shaping culture, strengthening believers, and winning unbelievers. He refers to On Guard as a training manual which needs to be studied not just read. Craig writes that becoming trained in apologetics is one way to be the salt and light in todays culture. He also shares how to defend the Christian faith without becoming defensive. Craig states: We should never quarrel with a nonbeliever about our faith. This book addresses and explains many different views such as: evolution, secularism, humanism, cosmology, metaphysics, Eastern thinking, naturalism and more. Throughout the book there are Talk About It questions listed in the sidebar, which help the reader dissect and go deeper into the information presented. Even though this book is meaty in content, it is well organized and laid out in a manner which makes it easy to read and understand.

On Guard, William Lane CraigA timely book as the agenda of false religions are further pressed forward. Christians need to become well-versed in the faith they profess. It does no good to possess a weapon if one does not have the skill and training to use it and to use it effectively. False religions are on the rise because they make a convincing case to the unsaved and weak in faith. This book is a wake up call to Christians to become versed in scripture. Scripture has called us to put on the FULL armor of God and to train up our children in the word. This book offers the insight and knowledge to do just that. This is a must have resource for Pastors and those in positions of leadership and discipleship. It is an excellent book for the Christian seeking to become a specialist in the faith. Apologetics is essential in the life of the believers: we must know why we believe what we believe. Each of us will face a time when we will be called to defend our faith, present our case for why Christ is the center of our life, why God is real. Our ability to do so may be the very difference of one souls eternal home. This is a wonderful, well-written book. William Lane Craig did a great job of making his theological knowledge and biblical wisdom easy to read and understand and apply.
