The ABD was begun in in the 1980s and completed in 1990. As far as I know it has not been updated since then. Therefore its contents are at least 23 years old (as of 2013) at a minimum and could to as old as around 30 years depending upon when the articles were research and finished.
The ABD is 7,200 pages, 6,200 entries, and the work of almost 1,000 contributors. Its scholarship includes Christians of all denominations and factions, and non-Christian scholarship including those of no faith and those of Jewish and Muslim faith.
There are many Bible Dictionaries that are more recent. In order to add this information it required that I rate it... I feel uncomfortable doing this as my experience is still in my view limited, however, since it is older and justified its usefulness at its publication because it had been 30 years since the last major Bible Dictionary work. It has now been almost as long for the ABD so I rated its usefulness Fair to average. Some may disagree, but I did not feel comfortable giving it a high or low rating so I chose something in the middle.
