Unit Studies by Amanda Bennett, LLC Horses Unit Study on CD-ROM

Children are introduced to horses at an early age with stick horses and rocking horses, and they continue to be fascinated by them throughout childhood. This study uses that interest and curiosity to help children learn the breeds of horses, the anatomy of horses, the history of horses, famous horses in history, and more.

What is the "gait" of a horse? How did horses impact American history? From the early horse-drawn chariots to the swift couriers used to carry battle plans, horses have helped expand civilization. From Egyptian pharaohs to Alexander the Great, from Leonardo da Vinci to Justin Morgan, history is filled with the hoof prints of horses and wonderful tales of adventure and excitement.

The Horses unit is in electronic format, meaning your children can work through the study interactively, clicking on the links in each lesson to further their own investigation. Each day's lesson plan has been written in two levels: Lower Level (elementary grades) and Upper Level (junior/senior high grades), enabling the whole family to learn together! Includes Horses Notebooking Pages.

The Horses unit study is already receiving wonderful reviews and is putting the excitement back into learning for many families—join the fun!

I was absorbed:
“Walking down to the barn and smelling the wonderful smells again, of leather, and hay and all things horses--this is what childhood memories are made of.... From a stick horse to a rocking horse we are introduced to horses at an early age and continue to be mesmerized by them...”
And then, by the end of her Horse unit with the beautiful and graphic “tool” pages, I had become captivated by the study.
Bennett first offered an incredibly rich resource list of books, movies, games, and family projects centering around the subject of horses. Then came four weeks of lessons that were conveniently divided into lower and upper level studies to match the learning level of my student, and these lessons covered a wide range of topic areas.
I found that quick computer links, directly functional from the study document, make the discovery-research both fun and easy. Not your typical horse unit, with Bennett's study horses have never gone so many directions! I never would have imagined that we could cover so many subject areas such as history, science, geography, art, literature and more, with horses as our subject.
Much more than just what a horse looks like, or the breeds, this study was full of exciting horse stories of history, lands where horses lived, what horses eat, even information about vets that work on these marvelous animals. I loved "Horses." I know we can return to it again, and glean even more at a later time. We’ve experienced amazing learning with this enthralling unit!

I thought this was an interactive dvd with online supplemental links. Instead, it's a book on dvd with lists of online sources and book titles.
There are some lessons written out but they are very simple. (i.e. look up "these" words, find a site on Egypt and draw a picture of the country, copy this Bible verse...etc.)
My advice is: save your money and buy a couple of age appropriate horse books for your kids. You can also do your own searches (for FREE) to find horse sites and craft projects online.
