A Beginning Advantage A Reason for Spelling, Level B, Teacher Guidebook and Student Worktext

How do children best learn to spell? Research says it takes more than just rote memorization and drill. Activities with a purpose are the key! And what better purpose than learning Scripture values.

Recommended for Grade 2. Every weekly lesson begins with a story - a contemporary theme story that develops key principles found in that week's Scripture verse. Daily lessons continue to build on this theme and help make learning to spell FUN! In addition, A Reason For Spelling ® encourages regular personal writing activities in a values-based setting. This gives children a meaningful context for focusing on correct spelling.

A Reason For Spelling ® combines the latest research on how children learn to spell with all the strengths of traditional programs. It integrates spelling with reading, writing, and language arts, while teaching children all the high-frequency base words, plus hundreds of other word forms as well!
A Reason For Spelling® covers six grade levels, with over 200 pages of learning activities in each student workbook. In addition, the detailed Teacher Guidebook provides a wealth of enrichment ideas!

A Reason For Spelling® incorporates a variety of successful teaching techniques: daily practice, self-correction, visual imaging, detailed student feedback, learning games, the test/study/test sequence, and much more. It also includes special activities in every lesson to help motivate visual, auditory, tactile, and multi-faceted learners.

My daughter really struggled with spelling until we started to use this curriculum. It is really multi-sensory, with spelling out loud, using paint or shaving cream, sand, crayons, letter and other things. It is set up for a pretest and than review of spelling words for next few days on days 3-5 the activities will also include words from previous chapters so she is constantly reviewing words again!

My daughter enjoys the curriculum. But, it is way too easy. The words are not at all challenging. I will probably go with a different curriculum next year.

This has been a God send. My daughter's worst subject is spelling. This program is really helping her out. It gives you a lot of ideas of making spelling fun. Each lesson has 9 different ideas you can do with your child to help them learn the spelling words. She's finally enjoying spelling!!

I first tried "A Reason For Science" three years ago with my son who is dyslexic. Now I won't use anything else. There are a variety of ways to teach any student so the teacher chooses the activity that best fits the student's learning style. At the end of each lesson there is a game that uses the spelling words. My son loved this. Every six lessons there is a review lesson. There is a story that goes with each lesson . My son really enjoyed this. The stories are included in the teacher's book. You can also purchase cassette tapes of the stories. I purchased the tapes and my son has listened to them time and again. In my opinion, this is the best spelling curriculum available especially for children with learning disabilities. "A Reason For Spelling" does take a bit more time than other lessons but I've found it's well worth it. It's interesting, even entertaining, teaches Christian values in the stories, and your student has fun while learning (even if spelling is a difficult subject).
