This is a very cute little play. We will do it for our children's Christmas program this year. There are plenty of speaking parts but none of them are overwhelming and rehearsals will not be terribly lengthy. Costuming will also be relatively simple. I am looking forward to working with it.

I don't normally do reviews, but I don't want anyone else wasting their money on this if they're looking for a play for a church. This is more Disney than Jesus. A few things: the angel tells the tree to close it's eyes, wish upon a star, and believe. It does not even instruct to pray. (Later, the Angel deceives the tree into thinking that because he believed, the angel BECAME the family's tree topper.) The closing lines are, "When you dream, and pray and hope hard enough, if you really believe, prayers can come true. We'll never know how the angel got here. Miracles happen for those who believe. Just as Mary and Joseph were blessed by the angel the first Christmas with the miracle of Jesus' birth, so we were blessed by God with our own, very special angel this Christmas." Aside from the Angel telling the tree that God answered the family's prayers about a tree topper - That last quote is the only mention of Jesus.

The story would be cute, if I weren't looking for a biblical, gospel-centered Christmas program.

The descriptions reads, "... this short vignette about a Christmas tree and Christ's birth ..." Half-truth at best.

I should have read the review from Wendy before purchasing. This play is awful for a church program. It has nothing to do with the birth of Jesus, only mentions Jesus once, and has major theological issues. Not only would I not recommend anyone purchase this, I would strongly suggest Christianbook.com no longer sell it.

As Wendy mentioned, the last quote of the play is:

"When you dream, and pray and hope hard enough, if you really believe, prayers can come true. We'll never know how the angel got here. Miracles happen for those who believe. Just as Mary and Joseph were blessed by the angel the first Christmas with the miracle of Jesus' birth, so we were blessed by God with our own, very special angel this Christmas."

I'm pretty sure my mouth hit the floor when I read this closing line. "When you dream, and pray and hope hard enough, if you really believe, prayers can come true" That is not how prayer works, I cannot image any church using this program.
