This is another book in the Otter Bay series by Julie Carobini that captures the reader from the start. Suzanna (known as Suz) Mitchell and her son Jeremiah have already moved across the country and are living with her brother Gage to rebuild their lives in Otter Bay.
Suz’s life is beginning to turn for the better when she gets a job restoring priceless art at the famous Hearst Castle. Then she runs in to her first love Zeth from so many years ago. Why is he out here? Things get more complicated when her ex-husband, Len, Jer’s father, just out of prison shows up. It is time for Suz’s to rely on her faith- something that she has let slip for a while. Both men have motives. Will Suz allow her faith to make the right decision? And what will that be?
Turn off the phone, make a large cup of coffee, curl up in your favorite reading spot and get ready for a fantastic journey. Only Julie Carobini can pull you in so far that you can’t put the book down.

Single mom Suz Mitchell is an artist who most loves painting full wall murals–preferably of ocean life–but there’s not much money to be made in that career in the small town of Otter Bay. She takes a job aiding in the restoration of the nearby famous Hearst Castle, though she finds the work tedious.
It’s worth it, though, to build a future for her and her young son, Jeremiah, but two unexpected men show up in her life. One is her ex-con ex-husband who claims to have turned over a new leaf. The other is Suz’s old boyfriend, whom she hasn’t seen since she last chose between the two men years before. Shouldn’t she give Jeremiah’s father a chance to prove himself a good dad, even though she has no intention of allowing him back into her own life romantically? And what about Seth? It looks to him that Suz has made all the wrong choices. Is there any chance for her to find love again?
Fade to Blue is told entirely in Suz’s first person point-of-view and gives a deep look at issues involved in divorce and single parenting. For all the less-than-fluffy material, this book is refreshing and genuinely sensitive. Recommended.

This is book 3 in a series but if you haven't read the first two in the series you wont be lost. I haven't read the first 2 books and followed this book with no problem. Suz has moved to California with her son and moved in with her brother to start a new life after her ex husband ends up in jail and she finds he lied to her. She starts at a new job and finds her old boyfriend is also loving in the same area and even working where she is as a contractor. Both Seth and Suz have issues they need to deal with from there past which makes for interesting story lines. I love some of the secondary characters, loved Suz's co worker who seems to have a few issues with Suz. I enjoyed the whole story and the different turns. One thing I love about the book is how Julie portrays Suz, when some things with her ex husband come up I love how we see Suz uncertain as what to do, to me it was very real and what often happens. It was good to see how Suz processes the different issues, alot with uncertainty where others were so set in there thinking. Good read.

Haven't we all looked back on our lives and thought, "If only I would have made a different decision...if only I would have known what would happen...now I'm trapped in a situation I never saw coming..." Suz, the main character, is there. She's trying to recapture a little of her dream of being an artist, piece together the good parts of her shattered life, trying to start over in a new place to have a better future. Life isn't a fairy tale, though, so there are no easy answers and quite a few dilemmas to struggle through. Good thing God is there to bring healing and direction. He is able to gently take the broken pieces of someone's life and create a beautiful mosaic...a new life of hope. He does that for Suz, and He can do that for you, too. :-)

Here is a contemporary Christian fiction about a talented artist struggling to make a new life for herself and her four-year-old son. Suz moves to California after her ex-husband cheats on her, goes to prison, and divorces her. She moves in with her bachelor brother, and regains her ability to enjoy life. As in all good stories, the plot thickens when the creepy ex gains his release and looks her up.
I learned a good bit about Hearst's castle and the business of restoring its valuable art.
However, I easily figured out the inevitable twist at the end of the story. Perhaps because the characters are rather expected; the good ones are totally without flaws. Nevertheless, the plot makes for a nice read.
Discussion questions are included.

Fade to Blue is a worthy entry as well as the latest in Julie Carobini's Otter Bay series.
Suz Mitchell is newly divorced, with a young son. Her brother takes her in and she works hard to establish a new life for herself and her son in Otter Bay, California.
Suz is shocked to see Seth, her first love, new to the Central Coast area in Otter Bay. She's even more shocked when her ex-husband also lands in town. Is he as repentant as he claims to be? Their son, Jeremiah, is ecstatic at the opportunity to spend time with his father. Suz's brother, Gage, is less thrilled. Suz herself is confused but sincere in wanting to be fair to all and to give seconnd chances.
Julie Carobini takes her readers behind the scenes at the California landmark, Hearst Castle, when Suz gets a job as an art restorer.
Other characters from the previous Otter Bay novels make appearances and it's fun to catch up with them.
Julie Carobini raises fair questions about how many chances do we need to offer those who wrong us. Fade to Blue is a fun read, and it's deeper than the sea foam on the cover indicates.
