As a follower of the oneyearbibleblog.com I find that the tidbits of information presented are both insightful and applicable. The one year bible companion is requisite for insights that one normally needs theological training, presented in an easy to comprehend format.

This book is a great "companion" to a daily bible reading program. It focuses on a bit of the verse that makes it easier to understand. We use it at some of our church meetings for a quick, short bible study before the actual meeting starts.

Enjoy the questions. They give a prospective that might not be considered at first and open the eyes to see the word of God even better.

The One Year Bible Companion is an interesting and helpful product, and I recommend it. Plus, it works with any translation of One Year Bible you may have purchased. (I assume it does not work with the Chronological editions, though.)

One, it is simple. There are only two types of content: Bible book introductions and questions with answers. The book introductions appear at the front of the volume, and the questions with answers are laid out by date and coordinate with the day's reading in the One Year Bible.

Two, the questions really are interesting. I found myself asking the same questions the Companion did on multiple occasions. The answers provided are typically helpful and thorough enough to feel satisfying. Also, the book appears to give multiple answers to harder questions that are often divisive in Christian circles. The answers also use words like probably when the answer is not definite. I prefer this over passing a questionable answer as definite fact.

Three, the questions are relevant. As I stated above, they go with the specific day's reading in the One Year Bible. This is great. I only wish sometimes more than 1 page would be used per day. Since the Companion only gives 1 page of space to each day for questions, certain days feel incomplete. For example, some days will ignore the Old Testament reading and only provide questions for the New Testament. This is perfectly acceptable, but curious folks may prefer to have 2 pages or more dedicated to each day's reading.

Four, this book fills a void in the market that I have personally not seen filled before. It is similar to a Bible commentary in that it provides additional details and background to what is being read in the Bible, but it does this in an extremely efficient way: questions with answers. A full commentary set sometimes dedicates paragraphs or even pages to a single verse which can bog down a casual reader. And yet, I find this Companion sufficient in answering most of my curiosities.

It must be kept in mind that any commentary or question-and-answer book will undoubtedly reveal the authors' opinions on and interpretations of the Bible. So, if you disagree with an answer, be open minded that perhaps this person has a different perspective on the Holy Scriptures than you do. Most of these answers remain helpful and unbiased, and I think their audience can thus be wide and diverse.

A solid 4 stars. Could be a solid 5 stars if there were perhaps 2 pages dedicated to each day's reading to ensure coverage of both Old and New Testaments. Great material, though, and it helps me understand my Bible more than before, so that's worth the purchase alone.

The One Year Bible companion is a quick reference book that sheds some light on key points of the Bible. It is definitely not meant to be an "in depth study tool" of the Word but can definitely help understand the context. It is a good tool for people who like to read through the One Year Bible but need a little more... Good tool for new readers of the Bible as well. Could be something you want to consider adding to your library.
