As I picked up "False Witness" by Randy Singer, I dound myself looking forward to my reading time every night. The plot has many twists and turns that keep the reader's interest. The lack of steamy sex scenes and absence of foul language revealed the biblical worldview of the author and made this novel avoid the pitfalls of similar books written from a secular worldview. I am looking forward to the sequel: "The last plea bargain."

Bounty hunter Clark Shealy has forty-eight hours. His wife’s life depends on it. Clark must find an Indian professor who has created an algorithm that could crack all internet encryption. The professor has it, and the Chinese mafia wants it. Clark must do things he never thought possible to try to save the life of his wife. Four years later, law student Jamie Brock takes on a case while working for legal aid. She soon finds out that her client is in witness protection, and the government has accused him of defrauding the government believing that he has the algorithm. Lives are in danger, as is national security, as the hunt for the algorithm pushes on and the keepers of the algorithm try to keep it safe.
I have to admit I have mixed feelings about this one. I’ll start with the negative first: I found that the book was a bit longer than it needed to be. There were several details that I skipped over because they just seemed unnecessary, and it didn’t stop me from understanding anything. I didn’t have to go back and read anything I skipped over. All of this unneeded detail tends to slow down the pace of the story… and this one had the potential to be an action-packed page-turner. The book is split into five parts. I found myself struggling to get into the first part, even though the action was pretty well paced. I think it had a bit more to do with the characters, which I didn’t feel drawn to at all.
But there are good points. The characterization of new characters in the rest of the book are much better and the story does grow more interesting as you become suspicious of everyone. Singer also calls attention to the plight of the church and the lower caste population in India. A special note at the end of the book explains a little more about the situation in India and Singer announces that all proceeds from the book are going to the Dalit Freedom Network to promote english-based education for Dalit children and to stop slavery and sex-trafficking. This reason alone is worth buying the book.
While I can’t say this is one of the best books I’ve read, it does have its good points. Make it through Part I and you should be okay.

Interesting and suspenseful. Full of surprises. Gets a little gruesome at one point, but nothing too descriptive. Sometimes hard to understand how certain parts of the story help contribute. The story jumps around a little.

I did not care for the death of Jamie's dog Snowball, that was my one big problem with the book.

I loved this book the first time it came out. So when I learned about the re-issue, I was curious to see if I'd notice any changes or if anything major would change. Instead, even though I'd read the book before, I found myself pulled into the plot as if I read it for the first time. Randy Singer is a master craftsman -- he creates plots that have the pacing of the Bourne Identity while being set in the legal environment. This book is really two stories that intertwine seamlessly. Clark, the protagonist in the first part is a guy who is forced to do things no one would want to in an effort to get his wife back from the Chinese mafia. Then the heroes in the next section are three mismatched law students. Boy, did I root for them as they were up against horrible odds. This is the kind of story where every time you assume the worse thing that can happen has, you learn in another few pages you were wrong. And the story twists literally to the last page. Even though I'd read it before, I could barely keep up with all the changes. A perfectly plotted legal suspense! I can't wait for the next Randy Singer novel to release!

An Action-Packed Thrill Ride!

I can now safely say that Randy Singer never fails to amaze me with any book he writes. He's got a knack for creating these larger-than-life tales that make me feel like I just watched a whole season of 24 non-stop. Granted, I've only read two of his novels, but simply put...he's just awesome. End of discussion. :o)
False Witness was an action-packed thrill ride, and that's no joke! There's the mob, the FBI, a bounty hunter, and this one little algorithm that everyone wanted. The problem was that if it fell into the wrong hands, chaos would ensue in no time flat. Then, there were the kidnappings, the torture, the money demands, and well...you can seen why it was an addictive read!
But the one strike this book had against itself was all the legal stuff. I was able to keep most of it straight initially, but toward the end, my brain was on overload. I think if it had been toned down just a little bit, False Witness would have been 5-star worthy, for sure.
In spite of that one little irritation, I still highly recommend False Witness as an incredible read. Just a warning that you may burn your dinner, have a pile of laundry waiting, or not get enough winks at night until you get it finished. :o)

Fantastic! False Witness by Randy Singer is absolutely fantastic!!! I wasn't sure what to expect when I started reading, but the story immediately gripped me and I have been reading furiously ever since! Much like John Grisham, Randy Singer weaves an incredible tale in this legal thriller. I kept trying to figure out how things connected, who did what, where the connections were between seemingly unrelated characters (or sections of the book!), which characters were good guys and which were bad guys. It wasn't until the end that I finally started figuring some things out. A book that keeps me guessing until the end is certainly a winner!
I won't go into the details of the plot because I don't want to give too much away. I will say though that there is an emphasis on the Christian church in India, persecution of believers, and ministry to Dalit children (those in the "untouchable" caste) which was an added bonus! Proceeds from this book are being donated to Dalit Freedom Network, which provides a first-class education to Dalit children and helps them escape from human trafficking.
I think you will love this book if you like suspense, thrillers, and legal novels!

False Witness by Randy Singer is an update of the writer's Christian legal fiction novel about the witness protection program. The book is told in two parts. In the first, Clark Shealy is just an everyday guy trying to make a buck working as a bounty hunter when his wife, Jessica, is kidnapped by the Chinese mafia and he is ordered to find a mysterious Indian man who has a mathematical formula that could rock the world. Clark's life is turned upside down and he discovers things he didn't know he was capable of in his quest to rescue the woman he loves. The second part of the novel picks up four years later with three law students who are hired by a mysterious couple to help them renegotiate their terms in the witness protection program after someone leaks their new identities to their old enemies. Singer puts some crack the whip turns here, surprising the reader at nearly every turn. There is some brutal violence, but the crux of the story is about faith and trust. Who can we trust? How far would you go for the ones you love? And what does God excuse in extreme circumstances. There are double crosses on top of double crosses and never a boring moment. My only regret about this book was that Singer didn't use these characters again. Maybe with the rerelease of this novel, he finally will.

Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive. That was my thought as I finished this whirlwind twister of a book! The book begins with the story of a man, Clark Shealy, whose job requires him to push the limits of legality in order for the good to overcome the bad in the world. He is good at his job—too good in fact and that draws the attention of some very bad men who kidnap Clark’s wife in order to make him do their bidding. Before he knows it, Clark is in over his head and is forced to go against everything he believes in to save his wife. During the second part of the book we are introduced to three law students, a former trial lawyer who is now their professor, several FBI agents, and the Chinese mafia, as well as the Shealy’s with their new identities under the witness protection program. Thus begins the weaving of the tangled web I mentioned earlier.
There was nothing I didn’t love about this book. It was very fast paced and kept me riveted and guessing to the very end. One scene would play out only to reveal later that it didn’t happen that way at all. Trust was built and then broken to the point that I felt betrayed myself by some of the characters, and was left wondering who could be trusted. Many thoughts of government corruption were addressed that you don’t want to believe but deep down you know really exist. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good thriller.

False Witness by Randy Singer is an adrenaline-laced tale that gripped me from chapter one. There is so much action that the story moves fast, but in order to understand everything that happens, it must be read at a moderate pace. This unlikely combination actually contributed to the book's ability to keep drawing me back to it. I loved the character of Kumari. He was wonderfully unique and intellectually stimulating – much like the entire book. Clearly, Singer did his homework while writing this book. His portrayals of the mafia, the job of a bounty hunter, and the life of fledging law students seemed spot-on, though I know little about any of those lifestyles. I read the 2011 version of False Witness which is a rewritten version of Singer's older book by the same name.
I recommend this book to fans of suspense/mystery fiction.

Randy Singer's book, False Witness, starts out with the gritty, hard scenes of a bail bondsman's detective work. It's raw, it's real, and it's believable, especially when we find out the Chinese mafia are involved. Clark Shealy is the bail bondsman doing the detective work, and the bond is the release of his wife after he finds the abacus algorithm and the Indian Professor, Kumari, who created it.
Four years later in the time warp of the book, the story turns into a legal thriller when three young law students, Jamie Brock, Isaiah Haywood, and Wellington Farnsworth, under the tutelage of Professor Walter Snead, are approached by David Hoffman in the legal aid clinic for the poor who need representation. Hoffman and his wife, Stacie, are in the witness protection program, and are accused of endangering national security by the government as they have possession of the algorithm and won't hand it over to them. So now the FBI and the Chinese mafia are threatening them.
Some, as did I, may recognize parts of this book from a previous writing with the same title. However, this new version appropriates the original plan Randy Singer had in regards to the Dalits ministry. The greater portion of the book has such substantial changes that it will pique your interests in the typical manner of Singer's books.
The legal thriller portion of False Witness will have you gripping your seats, as the pace and twists of the scenarios turn in rapid succession, with ever-increasing danger. The palpable danger of each character is just as raw, real and believable as the detective portion of the book. Randy reaches into the psyches of the law students, as they feel like they are out of their realm, not knowing who to trust. It reaches into your own emotions and fears. The faith of Jamie and Stacie helps keep them stable through prayer, trusting that all will turn out in God's way and timing, and that Professor Kumari’s wish will be upheld.
As usual, you will find the ending to be as astonishing as his others books. You still won’t know who is telling the truth or who can be trusted. It’s just the nature of the FBI beast. But it will still bring you back to reading his next book regardless. It’s what makes for a Randy Singer book!

Brilliant story! Randy Singer has written a masterpiece that I’d like to see on the Big Screen! False Witness is filled with an array of multi-dimensional characters. Some of them I felt for and others were nerdy but fun. There were also a few bad guys that I loved to hate! Randy helped you not to feel bad about their demise!
Randy hooked me from the first page and never let me go! I liked how the author paced this story by breaking down the book into sections which helped build the suspense, and drama while letting the reader get to know his characters and their situations well. I was spellbound.
It starts out with the epilogue called The Professor. I loved the quote Randy starts with, it definitely describes the professor, “Courage if fear that has said its prayers. By Dorothy Bernard."
Part one called Bounty Hunter, kicks the story into high gear when Clark Shealy – bounty hunter and his wife Jessica, find themselves in a life and death situation. Clark goes to repo a client’s car at a plastic surgeons office. This is the beginning of Clark’s horrible, no good, bad day at the surgeons’ office. Their world changes forever when Clark discovers is wife is kidnappe and he’s willing to do whatever it takes to get her back.
Randy writes, “Clark was not the same man who crawled out of bed yesterday morning, focused on chasing the American dream while living on the slippery outer slopes of legality.
He had a killer’s mentality now…There was no question if he had the guts to take someone’s life in order to save his wife. The only question now was whether he’d be able to stop.”
Part two was called The Law Students – In enters three law students hoping to practice law and make a difference in peoples lives, as they fight for justice. Their lives are forever changed when they take on a case at the legal aids office that has them in harms way. They wouldn’t read about a case like this in the text books they had for school. Who could they trust to help them get out of this mess? Quickly the drama turns surreal! Never in their wildest dreams did they think their first case would involve the Chinese mafia, U.S. Marshalls and the FBI! Would they all live to see another day?
Part Three – The Code – quote, “Where there is mystery, it is generally suspected there must also be evil.” Oh my, he’s so right. Why all the drama, suspense and murder? What do all these people have in common and want? The Code! The code to what you ask? The code to the master key – the key to every lock to every thing encrypted on the internet! Who is the keeper of the Code? How can they find the keeper and get the code at the same time? Now that is the question?
Part Four – The Deal – quote, "There are two tragedies in life: One is not to get your heart’s desire. The other is to get it” by George Bernard Shaw."
Randy shows this in a powerful way. Oh, the deals people are willing to make to obtain the most powerful key of all – the code. Riveting!

Randy brings this scripture and quote to life in this intricate, compelling drama in a race against time and bad guys to find the code before it gets into the wrong hands and destroys life as everyone knows it.
Each segment builds onto each other until the reader is mesmerized, has their heart-racing and up late reading to reach the stories climatic conclusion. I also enjoyed these characters moral dilemma’s as the searched to find the code and save our way of life. Did the ends justify the means? The spiritual thread was naturally woven into his fast paced story line. I loved every second of this book I couldn’t put down.
Who better to give the reader the inside scoop into the legal world than Randy Singer, who is an adjunct Professor at Regent University Law School, has his own law practice and has tried numerous cases in State and Federal court! Randy lifts the veil for a peek into the inner workings of the court system, law school and everything in-between.
Thanks Randy for a book I couldn’t stop reading, for characters I cared about and a story that brought me outside myself and had me look at life through a scope I didn’t realize could affect the world at large. This was such a true to life story, moving and powerful in every way. Now that I know the ending I’ll definitely read this book again to catch the things I know I might have missed. I’ve read several of Randy’s books so far and this one is his best! Definitely a book to read!

I enjoyed this book, stayed up most of the night to read it. It was fast paced although I did not care for the graphicness of the torture scenes even though most of them were what Clark was imagining in the first part. I also didn't feel that the first part moved smoothly into the second part. There was quite a jump from the bounty hunter's life to the law students' lives. Other than those 2 problems I enjoyed the book. The good guys weren't necessarily good and the bad guys were totally bad. I questioned the idea that a Chinese Triad would hire some Russian mafia thugs but I suppose this could happen. They just didn't seem to mesh. This Christian suspense novel did not preach, the characters had basic real life decisions between good, bad, and different shades of grey. I did learn some background things about the Dalit children and the persecution of Christians in India that surprised me. It was helping these children that motivated Professor Kumari and kept the bounty hunter and his wife involved in the algorithm case. The three law students were so different that I am looking forward to meeting them in another book with more character development. I could visualize them as legal aid volunteers encountering the rather mundane routine paper work that is it's prime occupation and their frustration with how the courts and the police worked in real life as opposed to TV land.

This a great novel, but at times it is difficult to find the fine line between the novel and real life! The plot is so real you can feel it. The story is captivating and the book is hard to put down!
Jamie finds herself swept into a dangerous situation after she and two law students take on a case for a client who is part of the witness protection program. She finds the facts confusing; the Chinese Mafia seems to be the primary enemy, but there may be another group in the equation as well...

This was my first legal-thriller to read - and I think I am hooked. If Randy Singer writes like this all the time - I want to read all of his books!
Clark Shealy, a bail bondsman, finds himself looking for a criminal in exchange for his wife's life. Up against the Chinese Mafia, The Manchurian Triad, Clark is in a race for his wife's life. During this time he develops a rap sheet a mile long and is pushed to the edge of his honor.
At every turn of the page there is a new twist. For the first time I seriously began to wonder if such things truly occur in the justice system of our country. If it could happen it did in this book - murder, kidnapping, intent to maim, auto theft, double-crossing, set ups and stings, witnesses in the protection program found out - it was all there.
In fact every time I thought I got the plot figured out - I was led down another twisty road that made everything look grey and made me doubt even those I thought were "good guys".
Absolutely worth the read - you will be kept on the edge of your seat the entire time!
