    Power Basics Biology Set
    While searching for a science curriculum to build upon the scientific knowledge base our child acquired during the “grammar stage” of the Trivium, I discovered “Power Basics Biology” by Walch Education.
    Power Basics Biology is comprised of twenty-five units, which are broken down into the following components:

    Each lesson in the student text follows the format of: Lesson Topic, Goal, Words to Know, Lesson, Tips, Think About It, Tips, Practice and Unit Review. The appendices at the back of the text contain a summary of important information introduced in the book.
    The student workbook contains ninety-nine activities designed to be used with the student text. Each activity helps to reinforce, extend or enrich the material in student is covering in the text. The workbook answer key is an individual resource.
    The text pack includes a pretest that covers all the material in the student text, a comprehensive test for every unit of the student text, a posttest for final testing and assessment after working through the entire student text and answer key and testing guidance for both student and teacher.
    The teacher’s guide includes an overview for each unit in the student text, suggestions for extension activities, the student text glossary and appendixes, a complete answer key to all the practice activities and unit reviews in the student text, classroom record-keeping forms, and graphic organizers for student use.
    Overall our family has been pleased with Power Basics non-sectarian approach to science. We look forward to utilizing Power Basics Earth and Space in the fall.
