I would like to take the time to say that this book was another excellent book by Max Lucado, God has truly given him a talent to make God's Word come alive. I have enjoyed Max Lucado for a very long time, and this book has become another of my favorites. It's Not About Me makes the reader understand that all that we have was not just obtained by us. It was give to us by God, and that our lives should point at the direction of God.

This is not the norm we are taught in this society that we are the Creator of our own destiny which this is not the case we were created and the focus should not be on ourselves but on the people around us. This book challenges the reader to see beyond themselves and discover a life out side of our walls. I truly enjoyed the book reading it has been an eye opener.

One note, for the ebook version, there are some formatting distractions — the blurbs that would (I assume) be captured as boxes in a callout on the side in a print version, are all caps in the midst of the text in the electronic version. These were in places where they sometimes interfered with reading the book.

Steven Curtis Chapman just released a song called "Do Everything" (it's only available on the radio right now) and the lyrics should be a soundtrack to this book by Max Lucado. The book (and the song) remind us that we are to be a reflection of the creator. We are to live differently by purposefully living so that "every little thing that you do to bring a smile to his face and tell the story of grace". That's from the song, but it is an apt summary of the book.

We live in a culture that encourages us to be 'self-aware' and 'self-governing' to the point that others are at best inconvenient and at worst irrelevant. Believers however are called to "be a living sacrifice" Romans 12:1. You can't be a living sacrifice and be selfish; you can only do this by being selfless — by living for something or some ONE else. That is the crux of "It's Not About Me" — living as a reflection of our redeemer-maker, our creator-savior, to the point that ourselves are merely "links in a chain, and not very important ones at that, " being used by Him as a testament to His kindness, not our usefulness.

By the power of the Holy Spirit, Christians are set apart to intentionally live as a pointer that demonstrates the Christ of the Cross to everyone. For the glory of God, we must move from selfish ambition to selfless service, in everything we do. This book is a great reminder that God is God and we are not — and to live otherwise is to live poorly.

I didn't know what to expect when we started this book; but it is beyond my wildest dreams. God put this book in our hands at a time when we really needed it. Thank-you for writing this book.

Excellent book and guide. Really shows how we should honor God as the only God and how we are to react to His Glory

"Our job as humans reduced down to one phrase - reflect God's glory." The previous quote from Max's book is a summary of his book as well as a summary of what he feels is our purpose in life. This is true of everything in life - suffering, our message, and even our success.

One thing Max does well throughout the book is to give us word pictures to help us to understand how our lives should reflect God's glory.

One picture he gave was that of an ad agency. He talked about how we are God's advertising agency. If we think of ourselves as God's ad agency, we will ask ourselves, "How can we promote God through our lives?" This is something that I thought about for a while.

I did not feel the subtitle of the book fit the book. The book really did not speak about being rescued from the life that would make us happy.

In the chapter titled, "My Body is about Him," he talks about intimate relationships, possible private parts of angels. So, if those subjects make you squeamish, then you will want to skip this book.

His last chapter tells a story about a rabbi he meets on a plane who tells him a story about the daughter of a boss who works in the same building as the owner of company. This chapter sums up the whole book very well and leaves you with a visual to tie all the other chapters together.

I like books that leave you thinking for days about God and what He wants you to do. This book does that.
