Avon Inspire For Pete's Sake, Piper Cove Chronicle Series #2

"Mechanically-inclined" landscape gardener Ellen Brittingham isn't sure true love exists until she's hired by sophisticated widower and single dad Adrian Sinclair. And Adrian's well-ordered world cracks when 11-year-old Pete Sinclair sets his sights on motorcycle-riding Ellen for his new mother---not his father's beautiful business partner/fiance. What's a fellow to do? 252 pages, softcover from Avon Inspire.

People shouldn't be so eager to hand out a high rating when there is so much work needed in a story. Usually the kids are great in stories, but Pete [Peter] just doesn't cut it, nor do any of the other characters. Genuinely disappointing tale without depth in plot and character development, Christian message, and entertainment value.

Ellen's big heart won me over to this tale, especially her love for Pete. Teaching him to ride her motorcycle, the water adventures, getting to know his new environs, etc. really portrayed her huge heart. That's what makes this story worth reading. I found Adrian a tad too naive regarding Selena for credibility, but I loved how he pursued Ellen's safety.

From her engaging humour, entertaining yet substantial characters and fabulous storytelling, Linda Windsor's books shine and For Pete's Sake is no exception. Ellen and Adrian's attraction is instantaneous but the circuitous route required to act on it and numerous hurdles in their way, including a scheming fiancee, a marginalised young boy and an interfering mother, combine to make a top notch comedic romance. Ellen's friends return to encourage and frustrate, hinting at storylines to come and as always, Linda infuses her tale with genuine and relevant faith threads. Linda's writing captivates me every time and I look forward to more of the Piper Cove Chronicles in the future.

Linda Windsor is back with a delightful romance that kept my interest from page one. And youve seen any of my other reviews, you know how much I dont like straight romance. Usually there has to be some other hook to the book. For Petes Sake focuses on Ellen Brittingham, one of a group of four friends who have stayed close since high school. Ellen doesnt quite fit in. Shes tomboy whos comfortable on her Harley, loves to have her hands in the dirt, and isnt even sure true love exists. Then Adrian Sinclair moves in next door. Hes got a great car, a son, a yard that needs Ellens help, and a fiance. Ellen befriends Adrians awkward son, and soon finds herself drawn to the father even though she tells everyone who will listen hes taken.Ellen and Adrian each have a depth that pulled me in. I wanted to see how they would resolve the issues of their friendship. The tug of war they feel between each other and their responsibilities was so true to life. Here are two people trying to do the right thing, and wondering if it might not be the wrong thing after all.

"FOR PETE'S SAKE"....get the book!!!!The book centers around Ellen Brittingham (whom you met in "Wedding Bell Blues".) She is one of the bosom buddies and such fun to be around! She loves her friends, fixing cars, fishing, hunting, landscaping, driving a Harley Hog and Kids. She's a girl with a BIG heart. On her way home one day she spies a sunset orange Corvette driven by a very handsome fellow named Adrian Sinclair. He also notices that it's a "she" driving that Hog. After he runs over something in the road, loses his breaks and ends up in a cornfield, Ellen gives him a ride home which just happens to be by hers. They both sense an attraction to each other and she soon finds out he is a widower, has an 11 year old son named Peter and is engaged to Selena. (Bummer)As Ellen and Pete begin to form a friendship, Adrain is feeling more drawn to Ellen. She has an easy way with his son unlike Selena. But what's a fella to do? Adrain is where he is because of Selena. Ellen is only his neighbor...right?Here is where things get complicated....and FUN! You will love all the secondary characters and of course you get to see all the bosom buddies again!!! I found myself laughing out loud in many places and several funny lines that will stay with me for a long time. I love the way Linda writes. Her easy style makes you feel like you are right there in Piper Cove. I highly recommend this book. You can read it as a stand alone but I think you will enjoy it much more if you read "Wedding Bell Blues" first. Looking forward to the next installment!!!! Great work Linda.
